I love crafts. I love working with my hands. To sit still with nothing to do makes me crazy. Even when watching the tv, I am doing something. Even if it is just surfing the web or chatting on IM.
One of the things I like is various types of “needle” work. Cross-stitch, knitting, crochet, sewing, quilting. Exceptionally un-awesome in any area, I manage to make do. I go for small, easy projects for the most part. For knitting, that means scarves and hats mostly. Recently I have made two shawls and that brought me much pride.
I enjoy giving my stuff away. I finished my second shawl yesterday, and it is for a friend’s little girl. I hope she likes it. I used a soft striping yarn so the shawl has beautiful orange and white stripes.
My good friend gave me the Stitch ‘n Bitch calendar for this year. A page for each day. Monday spotlights a type of yarn, Tuesday is for groups. Well, Friday brings fun patterns to try out. Unfortunately for me, they seem a bit advanced for my skill-set. A challenge!
Week one? A shawl. A little more than I wanted to make for the little girl, but it inspired me for the darling. The shawl I made is more my own design. Last week I found a Nintendo cozy, alas the yarn I wanted to use is completely inappropriate. So much for that. It’s on the back burner, for now. I did however purchase some yarn yesterday for that pattern… a sock!
Can I admit that the idea of making socks scares the life out of me? I have the supplies, I have the pattern, and I have a heart going pitter patter in my chest. I am going for it. Here is to trying out something new and extending my talents! There’s a cute lace up look for the back of the leg that I adore. My theory is, if all else fails? I can forget the sock part and just make the darned things leg-warmers.
So tonight, I begin. Feel free to place bets on the likelihood of success.
Reverse Psockology, I shall be your master!

Pattern for my shawl:
Cast on 3 stitches.
Knit 1, yarn over, knit rest of row.
Repeat until you have desired size.
Pretty easy, right? The yarn over gives a nice loopy lacy feel for the edges. I used a size 15 (US) needle so the whole shawl is just very lacy and pretty. It is not for real warmth but for looking nice. Hairy yarn, bulky yarn, any yarn for the look you want.

I do my crafts while watching tv too – can’t just sit there. I can’t knit or crochet, although I wish I could. I see such lovely yarn and want it just to have it. lol

But Crocheting isn’t that bad either. You should learn. They have classes at the craft store and I”ve seen some wonderful tutorial videos. I watch them often because my skills are so lacking I’m like… help!

I have trouble with carpal tunnel at times, so I’m afraid it might be difficult. Wish I could, though, fit it in. I used to knit when I was a wee kid, just simple stuff, like little scarves for my barbies. ha!

Then you are good to go. Look up “Continental” it takes less hand movements so doesn’t agravate carpal.
Or so I’ve been told.

You are welcome. I was told since I knit lefty, I knit continental. I looked it up. I don’t. ROFL That’s still right handed, just you hold the yarn in your left.
BTW so far so good on the sock!

It sure is!! But this is still the easy part! 🙂 HEHE So you know… whatever. But it sure looks cute. I’m getting close to the finish of the easy part, so that’s scary to think about!
The pattern is called Reverse Psockology. Isn’t that cute?
http://www.pettigrew.org.uk/anne/archive/2006/07/14/a_sock_pattern_and_a_confessio
But I don’t think the pattern is coming out the way you see it there. I don’t know if it is my yarn or if i messed up. I’ve got a pattern, but we’ll see when it is done and on if it looks the same.
The yarn I’m using is mottled a bit. It’s a very pale pink with these random splotches of dark pink. Only enough for maybe one loop… but enough to make the sock a little interesting looking. 🙂

Even if it turns out different from the pattern, it sounds pretty.

It looks really pretty. Did you go to the link to see the pictures? That’s what it is supposed to look like. So you can know. I’ll definitely post a picture when I’m done. I’m getting anxious! I just measured, only 2 inches!!! WAAAAAH It says seven inches… that’s still FIVE MORE TO GO. *SIGH*
I like big needles, gets big fast. ROFL These needles are TINY
I love this yarn though. So I think the socks will be pretty with or without the pretty pattern.

I checked out the link. I like the design up the back of the sock, really cute.
All I wear are black socks, lol. I really should try colour some day.

HEHE Live in colour! You only live once. You may have to wear dowdy clothes, but I say at least paint your toenails. HEHE You go girl!
I love that design up the back. It’s so cool. Mine is there, but i swear it doesn’t look the same. I’m up to three of the seven needed inches. WOOOT. I’ll work hard tonight.
I don’t know what to do aobut this pattern. I am hoping that maybe it is because it’s on the needle so I’m not really seeing it or that it is the yarn pattern. *SIGH* We’ll see!!
I gotta work hard tonight on this sock. I really want one done so i can see if it’s going to fit on my mama jama dancer legs. (It looks OK sized, but still maybe a bit small for me.)
Right now I’m in editor mode. Editing chapters 1 and 2 of NaNo Novel 06.

Nope, just saying live in colour!!! 🙂 It’s a technicolour world and you should dance in it!
And if it makes you feel better today I wore dark brown slacks, light brown mules, and a brownish creme shirt. But my shirt had a blue to dusky purple toned fairy on it. LOL
So much work to do on the socks. I might not finish before ht eweeknd. I’m beginning to wonder if I’ll finish even then. My gosh the sock is taking forever. The needles are TINY.
I got chapter one edited! WOOHOO! Next up? Chapter 2!

The pin sounds really cool.
Hold on, I happen to love colour. I didn’t mean to imply that I didn’t wear any colour. Only my socks are dark in winter. Btw, I hate wearing socks, and that is why I hate winter. lol
It’s so cold right now. brrr.

I hate wearing socks too. So I say, if you gotta wear them, wear something wacky. Hello kitty, butterflies, colours. HAHAHA 🙂
