Hmmm.
So I went from the night the poll went up… being in the top ten for highest vote gathering. now I am THE lowest vote count.
That’s just interesting.
And so much for the get your post in early/ on the first page. My post was number 1.
I’ve really enjoyed LJ Idol and writing about such a variety of topics. It’s been hard. But totally worth it. I feel like it really got me moving and some of my courage back.
Now I have Walking With Women and I believe some of that courage came from my experience on LJ Idol.
And if it were not for LJ Idol, Juan of the Dead would never have been born! Wooot!
(Speaking of that… I’m hoping to post it today. It’s about a third of the way done and I’m using my Friday morning for writing the rest of the next chapter. Since there’s no Idol entry due at noon!)

Oh yeah, and obviously I’m not in on the boycott LJ thingie that I still don’t fully understand. Probably because I only found out about it a couple of hours ago. LOL

The boiled-down version? The fact that LJ/SUP didn’t say anything beforehand about doing away with basic accounts upset a lot of people. There was also a postin g from the SUP people stating that no longer would certain subjects be found in LJ’s search director, including fanfic, anything to do with sexuality, and anything violent. Since fanfic usually includes either/both of the latter, there was a major uproar from LJ’s fanfic community.
Yeah, I’ve got people on my FL who are indignant about the entire mess. Different strokes, I guess.
I still think something’s screwy with the voting over on Idol. During the last couple of weeks I’ve noticed my votes growing toward the bitter end after staying stagnant…????

And I don’t think any of my non-Idol friends are boycotting. I believe I checked them all, and none even posted about it. Which goes back to what I said last night when I found out about it. In order to have a bocyott of no content… you need to make sure people know about it. I didn’t know about it. I’m just one person. How many more are there? Since none of my flist (pre-idol) mentioned it, makes me think… plenty.
I’m cynical and don’t see it as that big a deal. I mean there are definitely times when content slows down for certain demographics. It doesn’t phase the blogosphere. One day with lighter content is not going to be that big a deal. Now a month? And making sure people know? Yeah. Or people jumping ship and going to one of the other services? Yeah.
So, eh. I’m boycotting the boycott. *SNICKERS* If it wasn’t for Idol, I’d never have known about it anyway. Now I”m just LOOKING for content to post just to be a PITA. Go me! Take that, “I fought the law”!
As for the basic account thing, I don’t keep up with the account level. It looks to me like there’s still free, it’s just got to have ads. Well, they have to pay for it somehow. I’m just used to ads everywhere at this point. I don’t even see them. Oh wait, could be because I squish ads with my browser. *SNICKERS*
And the censorship? OK, censorship…bad. Censorship of adult content to protect your children? Now see, that’s a grey area. I have kids. I don’t want them to have easy access to this kind of stuff. (Now I”m a responsible parent and moniter their usage. That’s a whole OTHER argument. Let’s just talk basic censorship.) Not only that, but while here in the great USofA we supposedly have a freedom of speech, that’s not true for other areas of the world. AND this new owner is from… Russia. Erm… surpised someone wants to knock out sexuality/adult content? Nooooooooo! And violence? We’re already seeing people get busted for saying in their journal, “I hate my teacher I wish they were dead.” Oh we don’t want another Columbine! I mean on the one hand… we know sometimes people just have to vent. How many of us have written our sincere despisement of someone? But we really didn’t mean it. But now we live in a world of school shootings and whatnot and people are afraid. So once more? Surprised? Noooooooooooo!
I don’t know. I’m finding it hard to care at this point. Maybe because the censorships make sense to me because of public outcry. Protect our children! Protect our schools! Protect our people! Maybe its because I see a heck of a lot more destroying of “freedoms” than people want to admit going on.

You are right. Different strokes. They can boycott. They are the people needing to boycott. Honestly, if you want to have a Harry Potter does Snape in the Potions Room slash fanfic… you probably need to boycott this sort of thing. Personally I think that’s a bit creepy and need clorox for my brain at the thought. Not the kind of fanfic I read. I boycott such but just… not reading. I did not read Gonad’s entry last week on principle. Guess what. His is the only entry I didn’t read this week. Boycotting the content I don’t like. It doesn’t really stop people from posting that stuff, but I don’t have to see it either. It works for me, but not overall, which is how i see this boycott going.
Anyway… as far as the voting goes… I think something is weird, too. I got a slew of votes and then nothing? A couple weeks ago when Cal and I were partnered up… on Monday we got 0 votes for the entire morning. Now usually I’ll get one or two at the very least. But we saw people getting 10-20 or more. And yet we got… 0. He said it felt like someone just said, “It’s there time to leave.”
I’ll be the first to admit, I’m surprised i made it this far. I did not come into idol with the flist to carry me. I can count my pre idol friends on my hands. Probably one hand. Which is part of why I never really pimp my vote. You know? But… what the heck?
