Well I only had to go to page 150 but I must admit, I got hooked. I’m now on page 188 and at the start of chapter ten.
Warning this may include spoilers.
Since I last posted so much has happened in such a brief time. She’s now been at the home of the beekeeper sisters for almost a month. Well, she has learned about another religion, and grown to love these sisters. You learn about a tragedy in their family as well. Apparently there was a fourth sister who suffered from depression and died causing one of the sisters to become rather sensitive and kind of high needs. She has this interesting wall that she has built from river rocks. You also learn about another sister’s last love. And finally we have learned how these three sisters come to live there and why they keep bees.
We also have a new character introduced, a young black man who works for the sisters helping with the bees. With this we see the first awakening of Lily’s sexuality as she develops a crush on the young man. Of course this is forbidden fruit given the time and location.
What just happened was bad, now the guy has been found with friends, you see the whole thing and no he is innocent, but he stands up for his friends so they are all hauled off to jail. And the sensitive sister just found out and had a very bad episode like she’s never had before. I had to tear myself away. I’m very worried about this sister.
Just before all of this happened, Lily was ready to come clean about why she is there. She has discovered her mother did stay there a while but she knows not why. Whatever could have been the reason? What’s wrong with the sister? And will the boy get out of jail? (And more importantly are Lily and the black boy going to run off together and throw society to the wind and be a biracial couple??)
Wow, this book is slow to get you and then all of a sudden you realize you are suckered into the story and can’t put the freaking thing down! Well, only 120 pages till the end or there abouts soooo.
Now… to read or to work on my little scripting deal. Hmmmm….
