In a burning pit in h311.
Hey Viacom.. get over yourself already.
Poor Dish Network. People are irate. “We’re gonna cancel your service” regardless that the poor company is fighting for our rights as satelite users and trying to keep evil conglomerates from being jerkfaces. So like 15 CBS channels around the country are owned by Viacom. And so to get these CBS channels they want to charge an outrageous amount of money and insist on them including some other channels as well as completely change contracts with other channels. Say what?
So now there’s a black out on Comedy Central, BET, MTV’s, Noggin, Nick, Nick Gas… as well as the 15 CBS channels.
Whatever… Take your channels and shove them…
I think Viacom is also the reason why Charmed is not on DVD… them and Spelling.
So anyway… anyone want to take a little journey out to Viacom and do a little bit of erm… “yardwork” we will call it… yeah… “yardwork” *cough…must buy mass quantities of toiletpaper and plastic forks cough*

Viacom is being awful
There’s like these 15 CBS channels around the country owned by Viacom. Well they’ve told my satelite provider, Dish Network, that in order to continue carrying them, Dish Network has to pay 40% more, plus a premium, rework the contracts that Dish network has with some other channels (Spike TV and TVLand for two), and then include BET and MTV and Nick and some others.
Well they told Dish Network that if they did not go with this, these channels, including the 15 CBS channels would be blacked out for the Superbowl. CBS showed the superbowl. Hello… that’s just wrong. Terrorism in the “civilized” world if you ask me.
So there was a court order keeping VIacom from doing this and pretty much killing Dish Network. Especially since a lot of what they are asking for is more money than cable compaines pay. I mean hello… statement? Well the court order ran out last night and there has still been no agreement. So today…blackout on the said CBS stations and other channels.
It will be lifted because Viacom will realize they are being idiots. I hope.

Sounds like how George Stienbrenner (Yankee’s owner) was pushing his new ‘YES’ channel/network. He went to all of the cable providers and said.. you must carry this channel as part of your basic channel lineup and oh yeah.. it will cost you X number of dollars per subscriber.
When Cablevision said ‘no’.. Stienbrenner started an ‘ad’ campaign to get people to sign up for the dish network. (we have the YES channel).. switch now.
type of advertising.
They all play that game. And the people that suffer is the end user. why? because it comes out of our pockets. Personally.. I really wonder if I really need 200 channels of digital cable..

Yeah I don’t watch half the channels I have. If I could dump the music channels and the sports channels and the shopping channels… well you get the picture.. haha
And yep, they all play the game. I know that it was CBS here in Columbus that held up the process of the columbus locals being picked up. The locals have to cost the same no matter what city you lived in. Well the guy who owns our cbs also owns that Ohio News Network channel. He wanted to require them to carry that and then of course said “Well it is two channels, not just one so I want twice as much money.” Look dude, get over yourself… CBS important ONN about as important as your kissing my arse… would be nice but ain’t gonna happen.

yeah..
the sucky thing is that they all play this game.. you take this channel.. and this channel.. or you don’t get any of these channels..
you know how much money they would actually lose if we only paid for the channels we actually watched?
I often wonder how the shopping channels even make money.. considering I’ve never bought anything from any shopping channel.

They would lose a fortune. And a half. But that’s how they get the lesser channels on there. But the fact is that while I don’t watch say Comedy Central there are a lot of people who do. And we used to watch a lot of Nick JR but now that the kids are in school… not so much. But me? I am always watching Sci Fi and I know a lot of people feel that way… “Eh Sci Fi” LOL
I’ve never bought anything off the shopping channels either. My inlaws shop them… Why? No clue.

wow, that’s crazy!! Yeah I used to have less minutes but I scaled up. I figure I will use the cell more in VA than here. We may not even get a house phone unless we need DSL or something. The traffic there is horrendous so errands will take longer to do. Plus I know that I’ll be visiting Fredericksburg at LEAST once a week especially to help with my grandfather. Add onto that school stuff during the school year like now… So anyway…
To see how it is going to work I’ve been using my cell more and more. I used 400 minutes. But I called and talked to my mom quite a bit. Plus I do have a lot of calls to the realtors and stuff in VA and my cell is what i use for long distance.

You know what, there’s hope. I mean cancer is not the automatic death sentance it was just 10 or 20 years ago. And not only that but the treatments have gotten so much better. I mean they have so many new drugs. And they have developed some great drugs to counteract the chemotherapy.
If they catch it early on, then they can do so much. I hope they found it early. And like I said, I’ve been there.

i really do feel like there is a lot of hope. it is just scary. i knew, knowing you’d been there, that you would understand the fear. it didn’t take me but a second to ask how long she had had it, when they found it. she is about to take this mini-vacation, one of few she’s given herself, and we will see what happens after that. she was joking about how happy she would be with a hysterectomy. she has just lived such a hard life, to me, with some bad decisions. for instance, she told me she is taking 10 or so tylenols a day, or something like that. well, she is an alcoholic, and the one thing i know is not to combine things like that with alcohol. it is soo bad for your liver (as if drinking often weren’t enough). thank you very much for your kind thoughts. i felt like calling emergency prayer the morning after i found out. i feel like it’s killing me that my sister doesn’t know. i am so not used to biting my tongue that this feels like lying. *deep breath* my mom promised she would tell her, but i know in my heart how hard this is, and is going to be. wahhhhhh. lol. what was that we were saying about how nice it is to be a child? 😀

Re: it sure isn’t the automatic death sentence it used to be
you know, i had so many people throw our family and Caramon on prayer rolls across the country and abroad. I firmly believe in the power of prayer. By the time his diagnosis was finalized he was on that I knew of over 20 prayer lists. That I knew of. When he got his first treatment of chemo? They came in and sat us down and told us that while there was a lot of hope overall, that it generally took at least 48 hours to see the beginnings of improvement as far as his breathing was concerned. They then said that due to how long that was and how bad he was, we should prepare ourselves to put him on a ventilator by the end of the weekend. (This was Saturday afternoon.) They told us that at this children’s hospital their policy in a case like this where they knew the vent would be needed but the child was so young they would medicate him to keep him pretty much out of it and sleeping so he would not suffer with the vent. He was very awake and alert and suffering to breathe so bad.
We woke up Sunday morning to the doctors chattering away. We just knew it was because it was time for the vent and I metally braced myself. The doctors looked over at us and do you know what they said? They had no idea how it happened but his breathing had improved so much there was no longer any need for a vent AT ALL, there was no sign for ever having needed a vent, and that he could probably cut his breathing treatments back by half! This is in less than 24 hours.
They then went on to say the only thing they could think was that it was a miracle because there was no way the drugs could have worked so fast.
So if you feel moved to request prayer lists? Go for it.
