I’m kind of torn for our one local thing we have to vote for. It’s against the Republican female incumbant and the Independant male newcomer who’s actually from my area. They both sound almost identifcal. I like what they both have to say. My dad feels the Independant doesn’t stand a chance just because he’s an Indy and so many people just party line that Indy’s usually get shot to the wayside. I like the Indy’s website and ideas and everything but she had on hers that she wants to work on the estate tax which is something close to my heart (and the hearts of a lot of long term families in this district because hllo 400 years old VA is…) so I guess I’m going to vote for her. He didn’t have anything about the estate tax on his website.
Interestingly enough Nader didn’t get on our ballot. I guess he figured what’s the point since historically VA is a republican state? Who knows. Oh well. I’m going to go and cast my vote for Bush to ensure he takes our state. Every vote counts!!
I’ve got return sites up in tabs on my browser already… woot! One for the numbers with my local information as well (what little there is) and one for the EC fallings. Both are from CNN.com So tonight I can maniacally start hitting F5 on those to see how things are coming out.
I said a prayer this morning for this election. I just want people to vote informed, not party line, and not for someone just because they aren’t someone else. To vote for real issues and to leave the crap that the president has nothing to do with behind.
Hopefully people will vote informed, but let’s face it people won’t. They will just go all pissed off about this or that and not consider how long things have been going on and will vote based on the muck that’s gone around in this election which has gotten ather brutal. I’m almost ashamed to call myself American after what these candidates have done in this election. I’m tempted to go write in “Someone with the intelligence higher than a gnat and a maturity larger than their shoe size.” Let’s face it, especially here at the end NEITHER candidate is falling into those two qualifications.
*SIGH* I’m gonna go vote and then I’m going to visit some friends. I’m going to try to enjoy the rather BEAUTIFUL weather we are having. Ignore the whole election thing until this evening if I can. π
Everyone get out and vote if you can! π Vote your heart and for what you feel is right for the nation! And watch my moblog and I’ll post up some pix! π

not that it does him much good in a dedicated red state like this.

I don’t think Independants like Nader stand a chance in any state, red or blue. I’m sorry but the way our system is set up right now we are a two party system and everyone else is just up a creek without a paddle. I know it is probably jaded of me, but i personally wonder if the system were better if some of these independant guys would have more of a chance. This is a die hard “republican” state but you know what? I don’t think I know anyone here who truly feels they are a republican. Plenty of people who vote Republican but not anyone who truly feels they fit into that party. If that makes any sense. I myself and a staunch Independant. I want nothing to do with either group! Hehehe.

I agree. There needs to be more parties.
I’m a registered republican but don’t always vote that way. I’m mainly a republican because independents can’t vote in the republican primaries. And in KS if you want to keep some of the extremists out of office, you have to haul your tush to the polls and vote in the primaries.

I hate that you have to claim a party to vote in the primary. That irks me to no end. So I choose what party I want to vote in depending on what is likely. Like this year I voted democrat in the primary because it was obvious that Bush was going to take the republican ticket what with him being hte incumbant and all. I figured that was a waste of time when my efforts could best be put elsewhere. So I claimed democratic so that I could vote for that primary and not vote for Kerry. I figured this way if Bush did lose since there was so much animosity towards him, maybe I would have helped get someone that I could deal with. Of course since the primaries are horrendously screwed up anyway it didn’t matter. Ohio, being a key state in any election, was one of the last to vote in the primary. By the time I did vote it was almost assured that Kerry would take the ticket but I went anyway.
I hate primaries. Besides the fact they are screwed up because there are people who get to vote but only after it is pretty much decided, you also have to claim a party. Both of these lead to a shoddy system.
I think that the party system needs work. Make it so that Independants have a better chance. I’m sorry not everyone is cut and dry republican or democrat. It needs work. Right now they can try… but they don’t get a real opportunity.
