OK, there’s a lot of talking about Harry Potter. A lot. A lot of spoilers out there.
I do NOT have the book yet. I’m still debating if I want to purchase it now or not. I don’t have any American hardbacks. I have the first four in American paperback and the last one in Canadian hardback. As many who know me know, I disagree with the fact that the books are changed when they are brought into the states. Also many who know me know that I have a whole thing with having my books match up. So since i have no American hardbacks in this series, I’m not sure if I want to purchase one. Unfortunately I have no plans to go to Canada any time soon to get a PROPER book.
I’ve already been spoiled a bit. I know who dies. I’d rather stave off any more knowledge at this time. I don’t want to know “in the kitchen by Mr Plum with the rope” at this time. While I decide what I want to do as far as getting the book.
So I’ve decided with the vast quantities of gushing, I’m just taking a break from reading journals for the next week while I decide what I want to do exactly. I’m sure you guys all understand. You’d hate it if you came here and read “OMG OMG OMG I can’t believe it! ______ DIED! *SOB SOB SOB*” I’m not huge anti-spoiler person, but this series seems to be a major thing so there’s a LOT of details leaking out and frankly, if i want that much detail, I might as well read the book so I don’t taint my reading. I hope that makes sens. 🙂
If the truth be told, I really don’t have a heck of a lot time anyway. I’m totally looking like mad for a house. 🙂 I looked at two more today. 🙂 Hopefully soon I’ll find a house!
Anyway, I’ll still be posting my day by day stuff, but just won’t be visiting any of my LJ friends so as to not get HP spoilers. ((HUGS)) to you all! Enjoy the book if you are reading it! If not and you don’t want to be spoilered? Good luck!

HAHA… Well I heard the last couple of pages. I must say I’m curious why there are certain people saying they aren’t doing a certain thing. In fact I’m still trying to figure out just what a certain person is going to be doing over the summer because he/she mentioned he/she was NOT going to go or stay at a certain place they were supposed to spend the entire summer. And I’m curious just how BOB dies and what that means for the Potter-verse. I can’t wait to learn all these secrets!!!
But for now, I don’t want to be spoiled any more than that!! It is enough spoilers and I would really like to not taint the story too much by getting misc details not in the right order and all that. I mean I’m kind of like “Dangit” now that I know WHO BOB is. But I knew there was going to be someone dying so oh well. At least I know it happens before the last page of the book. 🙂 It was kind of horrible when it was leaked that someone was gonna die and I was reading the book going who is gonna die and when? and then FINALLY it was Harry’s Godfather. Every page you turn it was like “Is it going to happen now?” At least with knowing who it is, I can know his goose is cooked and not expect death on EVERY page.
I don’t know, I’m rambling…
And yeah I could wait if it means getting a proper version!!
So, comment here and tell me. What do you think? Half a day to read? *GRINS* Oh, and by the way… from me to you… “SNAPE” 🙂 hehehehe Hope you enjoyed your time with Severus!! Are you going to reread it again now so you can spend more time with him? (Though I got a flavour of some of what they do with him… I can’t wait to read about THAT! Been wondering what you thought about it!)

Yet, I was the same, kept wondering when the certain incident would happen. Oh goodness! Wish I had someone to talk to who’s finished, but no one has. I’m bursting at the seams here. lol
I’ll try to get the book to you sooner than the end of the month. You’ll probably read it in a day – a good 8 solid hours if you push it. I’m a bit slower. There are times I just had to set the book aside and gather myself together.
I’m calling it the Book of Snape. I’m high on Snape. ;D It’s my fave book thus far. Yet, sadly it is so apparent the story nears the end. I just don’t want it to ever end. I’m just squirming here b/c there’s much more I’d like to blab about but can’t because it would give it away.
I’ll start re-reading soon. I’m compelled to. I have to pore over it.
There are a lot of spoilers flying around in LJ. Whatever you do do not read them for they would ruin the fun of discovery.

I heard there’s a LOT of Snape in this book. Which is good. Good or evil, I like Snape’s character. He has so much depth.

I know there’s like a zillion spoilers on LJ. It’s why I decided to just make a flat out post that I’m not reading any of my friends list. Forget it. I do NOT want to be spoiled! Easier to just not read friends list. Which is fine, I need to house hunt so that when I get the book I can read it without feeling guilty. 🙂

Exactly! It doesn’t matter to me whether Snape is irredeemably evil or not. He’s a captivating character.

I haven’t talked to Caliban today. His wife is in the hospital so I’m not sure where he is in the book let alone LJ… Since I’m depending on his txt messages to my phone for news… haha… I told you, I’m not going near my LJ friends list with a ten foot pole. I figure it’s only a couple of weeks to a month… really… I need to focus on houses anyway… 🙂

Well, it seems you have someone willing to send you a copy from Canada. If you couldn’t wait, I was going to reccomend borrowing one from the library if you’d at least be willing to read the American version – knowing you could read the British soon and own it. I got my copy from the library – and I was suprised I did. They ordered 4000 books for the Northeast / central lake-shore Ohio library system. Maybe I can buy a copy when they sell a bunch after the rush dies down!
I just finished moments ago. I’d be asleep but a cat just decided to use me as a cuddle toy. Oh! She left! I should hurry while I’m free!

Oh yeah, and I made that command decision when Caliban called me up and said that he went to read his friends list and it was like Sunday or Monday or something and someone had already posted a very detailed spoiler. I mean he found out who died and how and why and a lot of other stuff and was like ‘NOOOOOO!” So I decided right then and there… no freaking way. I would just stay off LJ for a while! ROFL

The wait list is a mile long!!!! Our library here is not adequate. Our town boomed way too fast. The library system is still set up for the town to be a quarter the size it is.
I can wait a week. It’s fine. I have a lot going on anyway with house hunting. I really don’t have the time to read it like I want to. So instead I’m going to use it as a reward. I must do everything I can to locate somewhere so that I can then relax with Harry Potter with no guilt. I should be able to use the time between finding a place to live and the actual move itself to read the book. Since I don’t really have a lot of packing to do since everything I own is already packed up in storage except what little bit is here. (Mostly clothes and electronics and books)

I saw Julian on different talk shows around the release of F4! He’s a charming, funny, and intelligent person. He was also nervous, which I think is adorable. At times his accent was quite apparent, then it would disappear.

Oh! Charmed watchers, too. That’s great. I just learned that the Canadian station that carries Charmed is dropping it this Fall! I’m shocked.
As I already mentioned to you, I also read a spoiler, but I only believed part of it. I was sure it was a hoax. That’s another reason why I read the book so fast. I just had to learn if it was all true.
So, mailed the book yesterday, hopefully within a week you’ll have it in your hands and be reading. I hope.

Yes, still have the WB channel so will see it. It’s just that the Canadian channel aired it two days earlier than WB here. It was good knowing that I could catch it again if I missed something. Oh well, at least I’ll still have it. I was used to it on Friday, and change throws things off. lol

the editing is to take away the slang that we wouldn’t understand. To “americanize” it. However I see plenty of british slang left in. What they actually change are whole sentances.
Here’s a couple of examples:
In book 2:
UK: Harry was pointing at the ground a few feet away. Several large spiders were scurrying across the earth.
USA: Harry pointed out the spiders, following their progress with his eyes screwed up against the sun.
UK: Professor Snape escorted…
USA: Professor Sprout escorted…
There’s others… I read one line where in the UK version Hermoine said something and then there was this whole explanation of how she acted when she said it. In the US version it just had her saying whatever it was. It made it a lot more clear as to what was going on and what she meant by her words in the UK version. I can’t remember what that was though.
Some stuff is like they change “torch” to “flashlight” and “queue” to “line” though I see a lot of the slang being left in myself. *shrug* Frankly, there’s nothing wrong with the original words so I don’t get it.
Of course the most well known change is in the title of the first book/movie. It was originally Philospher’s Stone but when bringing it the US they were afraid that kids wouldn’t understand alchemy and wouldn’t understand that that wasn’t all bookish learned type thing and was really magick.

Wow that seems silly. I’m really glad I read your journal before I purchased the book. When we go to Canada Tuesday I’m going to pick up a copy there and I’ll compare it with my little sisters USA version (she won’t share lol). But yeah like you said in the last few books ( I have all the other ones in USA versions) I’ve noticed plenty of British slang, I wonder what makes them change some words and not others. That really is funny.
