So I see this great deal on an 80 gig hard drive last week, right?
My desktop still does not work.
It is sitting there under my desk with the side off and a nice pretty 80 gig hard drive that has no operating system. Dang Microshaft. GRRR Still getting that “Product ID not valid” crap. We have tried so many different things.

I’m going to talk to my hubby about this tonight. He works in a computer store and deals with microcrap all the time. i’ll see what he says, maybe he knows of a differnt number you can call or something. I’ll let you know what i can find out. Its retarded that they’re saying a CD rom KNOWS its on a different hard drive. I know that with windows xp home, they do keep track of your system, and ifyou change more than 4 pieces of your system within 30 days it will be invalid, but after that 30 days its supposed to ‘reset’. Its stupid to think that you have to buy a new OS just because you change your system, especially since they gave you a new activation code and it isn’t working. That just makes no sense.
About the only other thing i can think of is to keep the old HD in there as the master drive, with the OS already on it, and put the 80 gig one in as a slave drive.
We upgrade and reformat all the time, so thats just weird what is happening to you.

OK, I understand the activation thing… but that should not come into play until XP is fully loaded and I hit on the activation thing. And then they can say “oh wait, this seems to be on a different computer.” BTW I mega disagree with that. That is wrong. I understand they don’t want people skipping around with a Win XP disc loading it on every machine they come across. But come on. This is ridiculous. You know what I mean?
Please, by all means talk to your husband. Talk to anyone. There HAS to be something. Other than buying a new copy of Windows XP. I’m sorry, if it was more affordable I’d think about it. But with as expensive as it is? No fricking way. No way.
I can’t believe this crap. I hate Microsoft but XP was actually on the road to being acceptable. I was starting to change my views… forget it. This incident alone has shot that out the window. They have been called Microshaft by me an awful lot this week. I think i’ll keep it up.

Ok i’m talking to my hubby now. He says to take the cd back to the store you got it from and tell them the cd is not working when doing an install. He had to call a # once (it was toll free) when he upgraded too much to get a new key, and that worked, but as you said, you’re not even getting that far, and there is no way that you should be forced to buy a new copy. Make the store fix this problem for you.
HTH!

We have had it for two years. any and all warranty of that sort is probably gone. Plus the fact we have no packaging what so ever. š¦ That’s what I get for throwing out boxes i guess. *SIGH*
I can’t believe a new key didn’t work either. This is bogus.
