We wanted to go to a movie last night but we couldn’t find a babysitter. *SIGH* Oh well, such is our life. So we took the kids to Friendly’s for their monster ice cream. It is their reward for finishing a hooked on phonics box. Caramon completed box 2 and Joram completed box 1. We are very proud of them.

Then we went to Blockbuster to rent some movies. Plus I had the DVR set to record a few. So here goes the movie reviews! Might be long so I will LJ cut each one.

Underworld was dark and action packed. The story line was confusing and you really don’t figure things out until the end. So that was kind of interesting but frustrating at the same time. Aside from that though, I had little complaint. This movie is definately not kid friendly though as there is an awful lot of gunplay and blood.

The basic story deals with a blood feud between vampires and werewolves. They want to wipe each other out. Why? And what does this mysterious human guy have to do with it all? Hmmm. Intrigue.

I give it major points for action and costuming/makeup and originality. Acting was also well done. Frustration factor kind of brought the enjoyability down, but at the same time had me rivetted. Knowing that they don’t explain things might help out. Sometimes that is fun beause you are trying to figure out the puzzle before anyone else. However the clues are hard to glean so you are like ‘SOOOOOO????” I highly recommend if you get fidgety in tense movies, have some air popped popcorn or carrot sticks or something. You might ned them.

I would definately recommend this movie to adults. Especially if they like action and sci fi/fantasy type things.

We DVR’d this for the kids. Sir Megabyte had no real interest in watching it. I thought it was fair. They seemed to cut down on the sexual stuff that was in the first movie so I was happier with this one than the first one. I think everyone did a nice job. I have to say, I love the lizard. He was cute. The bear was annoying, but I think that was the point.

This movie had a good lesson about tearign down forests. Tearing down forests are not good. It kills wildlife and makes animals homeless. I understand that it must be done at times, but we need to really think about what we are doing.

Kids gave it two thumbs up! They enjoyed it! So that’s good.

I do like the family dynamic as well. They did a great job here.

Medallion stars Jackie Chan as an Interpol agent. This was one of his more serious movies. I like his humourus ones, and while this had some humour you could tell they were trying to be just a little more serious than say Rush Hour of Shanghai Knights or whatever. I really just like Jackie Chan as do the menfolk around here. He is probably Joram’s favourite actor.

The story is about a medallion that can apparently bring the death back to life. It is rather complex to try to explain easily without giving away too much. So I’ll leave it at that.

There was some humour as Jackie Chan’s character is reunited with his former partner who is rather inept. But funny in his ineptness! However, there’s a secret about the inept guy’s wife (that I’d LOVE to know) that they did not fully explain. So at the end of the movie we were like “So what’s up with the wife?????”

High marks for having Julian Sands even if they did cut his hair. Mmmm Julian Sands. I have loved Julian Sands since Warlock.

This movie had a bit of humour, some romance between Jackie and the gal that made up their little trio, some evil guy goodness from Julian, and lots of kungfu action!

Best Jackie Chan yet! (Take that with a grain of salt, I always say that! HAHA)

Boys say “Yay! Jackie Chan!”

Boat Trip has Cuba Gooding Jr and a buddy mistakenly get on a gay cruise. EEEK. Gay men as far as the eye can see. So much for their scheme of getting chicks! But ahh, hope is in sight in the form of a downed helicopter with a tanning team from like Norway or some such place and a dance teacher on the cruise.

Cuba plays gay to try to get the dance teacher to pay attention to him and his friend meanwhile tries to woo the tanning team! The whole show is just a riot!

However, on the down side, they played up sexual stuff just a little bit too much. Like taning lotion and other things. 😦 This was bad. Why couldn’t you have kept it clean? *SIGH*

For the less sensitive to such, I would recommend this. But I was disappointed for this reason.

This was a made for tv movie on ABC Family last night. It was cute. Romantic Comedy which I LOVE. Jason Priestly (Brandon from 90210) was Ryan Banks, an actor with an attrocious repuation with the ladies trying to make himself more endearing by doing a reality tv show looking for a bride. Charlie is played by an actress I first saw on Popular and then she was on ER for a while. Finally, Ryan’s best friend is played by Wil, from Alias. Now the story is that Charlie gets entered to go on this show by her sister and brother-in-law. She’s the top pick to win Ryan’s key to his heart but things run aground when she and the agent experience some sparkage.

I enjoyed this movie and if you want a cute romantic comedy, go for this one. It also was an interesting look into “reality tv” and “dating shows” and how half of what you see is really scripted and what wonders editing can do. So if you like Reality TV but don’t want the myth that it is “real” debunked, don’t watch. However if you enjoy reality tv you might just enjoy this.

Give it a whirl. It will bring a smile to your face! And a warm fuzzy feeling to your heart!

Sci Fi original with SLIDERS John Rhys Davies. (JRD, hope I spelled your name right. I love you and if I didn’t, I mean no disrespect.) Arturo on Sliders is now seen as a mideaval king. His nation and the one next door are being attacked by dragons. which I swear it seems like they came from outer space. No clue what that was about. If it was in there, I missed it. Anyway, it was definately a fun dragon movie, even if the dragons were bad and trying to burn everyone to a crisp! John must make a treaty with the neighouring nation in order to survive. Lots of great mideaval fun! I’m sure they could have done better, but I’m not real sure how I just really enjoyed it.

OK that was my crazy movie weekend. I just hope I can take the dvds back to blockbuster in the morning. The road is completely covered in snow!
