Ok, so I’ve been hard at work today packing packing packing.
My spare bedroom is almost ready! WOOHOO With the exception of the books in the closet. I am going to wait till i have a box. THey are hidden from site so it is good enough for now. But everthing else is just about done. All I have to do is finish removing the books off my hutch, one shelf left. Not too shabby. Then of course go through and clean. But I’ll do that all at one time. It just needs dusting and vaccuuming.
Last night we met with another realtor. She said that the market last year was bad. Real bad. But that January and so far February are out of control and very mobile which is unusual. She said that also looking at what the listings in the neighbourhood are right now, we should be able to list our house for over 200k. By the time you take out her commission and the other fees it looks like maybe only a 5500 loss? Well that’s not so bad. Still not happy about lost but that one is a lot more doable. We might be able to negotiate that down plus of course there’s tax benefits to the loss. So that doesnt’ seem near so dire. Whew.
She also offered once I finished doing the Great Megabyte Clean Out to come through and help me rearrange and “stage” the house. Fine by me. She tells me to move a sofa, it’s move. Whatever. It will be done. π Anything it takes to sell this house! HEHE
So anyway we went ahead and signed with her. Very happy to have all that off my shoulders. Now it is just packing and cleaning. Bleh. But now I feel the urgency again so it is motivation time! i’m going to try to get some help in here next week to wrap things up as well. Hopefully the house will be raring to go on Friday of next week. That’s my goal. She’s given me until the 18th though. But that works if I get my stuff done by Friday then that gives us the first few days of the next week to start setting up the layout and all.
She seems to think that our house has a good shot. Lots more positive vibes off of her. Yay.
Ok, so i must get back to work! Enough lounging!!
Oh yeah, and last night I went through the boys toy boxes. THey have a rubbermaid tote (no I’m not addicted or anything to the things, leave me alone!) and a big bucket thing. Well most of their toys were in the two. I weeded out all the broken and bleh stuff that they don’t play with. Managed to get almost everything in the tote. So put the big stuff and a couple of other things in the bucket and put it back in their room. They have to finish cleaning today so then I’ll take it again and rego through it. There’s some room in the tote. Mwahahaha. I feel bad they won’t have much but they will have a clean room by golly! I also went through the car track box which I vowed to do last month but then got sidetracked with other packing. Got rid of the cheap tracks that already broke. That kind of stuff. Suddenly not only can you actually close the lid, but there’s room to spare! YAY. So that’s done. And it sits upon the toy tote. It is also going into storage. i will be taking their lego tote away as well as soon as their room is cleaned up. I’ll make sure I have all the legos in it and it will get packed.
WOOHOOO. Things are moving along.
I didn’t do much packing yesterday. I did alot of putting boxes in basement and cleaning up. So the house looks much better than it did yesterday.

I hope it does too!
I feel so busy. I can’t believe all the work I’m doing. It is so sad to see my life going into these rubbermaid totes. At least it will be organized so if I just MUST have something before we move, I should hopefully find it easily! HAHA Hopefully that won’t come up though.

Are you using totes to pack everything?

Pretty much.
Here’s my theory. If I was going to buy boxes (which is about the only way to get boxes these days) I’d probably be going to Uhaul right by my house. Their cardboard boxes of the same size as the totes are just about the same price as the totes. Last I checked it was within about 50 cents. So here’s my reasonings:
1. Same size
2. Virtually same cost
3. Totes are waterproof (to some extent)
4. Totes are reusable
5. Totes organize things real well.
6. Totes stack super great and don’t get all crushy like boxes can after time
7. Totes are long term
8. Totes offer slightly more protection than cardboard does. Kick tote your toe hurts. Kick box you kind of muck up box and your toe hurts. So hopefully stuff is a little safer in totes.
9. Cockroaches live in currogated cardboard. Cardboard is scary. Hopefully this will cut down on that some.
The only thing totes of the average size are not good for:
1. heavy dishes. Though I used 2 totes in our last two moves for my china. I packed each only about half full and it seemed to work well. So I might just do that again.
2. books and videos. They aren’t flush and they get heavy. But I might try a smaller tote and see how that might work. Generally what I try to get for books and vids are paper boxes. You know, like Xeorox or Staples boxes that businesses get their reams of paper in. Those are the best size. Everything stacks so beautifully in there and when full it is just the right heft.
So I went and bought 19 Totes. Plus I had some here that I could use. Plus I had some already full. Like Christmas ornaments and stuff. So I probably have a total of like 30 totes that will be holding all the crap I can fit in them. π I’ll definately let you know (and post a picture) to show it done…
Just with long term storage… and me being wary… I wanted something more durable than cardboard. I mean this way if you get an inch or two of water (EEK) my stuff won’t be totally ruined. It really needs to get to the top of the tote to seep in. π God Bless the inventor of plastic!

You’ve certainly thought it out, Oz.
hmmm perhaps they’re made to break down these days, like some bags do. Otherwise I’ve just had a scary picture of a distant future with totes piled mountain.
But I’m sure they make them to break down…

Totes don’t break down, boxes do
but I’m sure I’ll find use for totes. Besides they can stack in each other easily. So I’ll find use for them. Plus I’m moving to the town my mom lives in and she is always in need of totes so if I really can’t find a use for the darned things… hullo mum. π no worries about piling up totes. But considering some of my stuff is staying stored for probably a year or so… I figured plastic was better than cardboard.
