Celestron Solar Filter for Nexstar 80 Telescope 27.07
With this I could look at the sun. That would be cool. Plus with the Venus Transit this summer of which we’ll be able to see like I don’t know… half an hour of??? HAHA would be neat.
Meade 124 2x Barlow Lens 39.00
This basically doubles your eye pieces. A 2x Barlow doubles your magnification. So a 40mm (wide field) goes down to a 20mm. Nice. Not quite as nice as if you had a real eyepiece that mm in your scope but not really that telltale.
Meade 128 3x Barlow Lens 39.00
I don’t know…cause it is there and is like the above one but triples?? HAHA I didn’t even know they made a 3x Barlow. This at any rate is more along the lines of “I’ve got everything else.” hehe Just for fun.
This is just one set… I want some of these filters. Filters are cool. They will cut light and do other neat things. You can see more detail or contrast and etc depending on which one you use for looking at something. this set is 35 bucks and is by Celestron. The ones I was looking at in the store were by Meade I believe and were about 20 each. Or there’s a set of four for 60.
I’d also like something to hook my camera up to the telescope for better astrophotography. And being able to use laptop in conjunction with scope would also be nifty. I mean a heck of a lot easier for a star party if I could pipe something to my laptop for people to view on there instead of queing up to look through the eyepiece!!! Especially kids who might the scope off of alignment. I don’t know if there’s something like that that would work though. 🙂

You’re into astronomy?!
With your last post, I assumed you just wanted to see the event for pop reasons – I had no idea you were into astronomy! *envies you* If I ever manage to gather the money, can you help me find equipment and resources?
So, do you just attach the lenses to each other? Like put 4 3xs in a row to get 81x?
P.S. Don’t you mean might “knock” the scope out of alignment?

I love astronomy..took a really BAAAAAAD class at college on it. HEHE
I would love to help you with the resources. 🙂 It’s fun. A cheap scope can be had for 50 bucks but you better have dang good skies to see with it so I wouldn’t waste my time. Mine’s roughly 300 bucks and is quite nice for an beginner on a budget. 😉
You can’t really effectively double up barlow’s. A barlow already lessens the quality… even though it magnifies. Meaning if you use a 10mm eyepieces with a 2x barlow to get a 5mm eyepiece, it will be great and all and better than the 10 for magnification, but you’d get bettr results with a strait 5mm eyepiece. The barlow just allows you more flexibility/bang for your buck.
oops I did forget the knock… didn’t i? HAHAHA
