cant’ sleep
basking in novel progress… haha
So I created a file with all my chapters in one file. I can’t believe it. 8 chapters! 45 single spaced pages. With it double spaced it ends up being 82. There are 18,252 words. I can’t believe I have had that much to say! HAHA Bet you guys did though! Here’s the stats: (In this file it is all double spaced…)
18,252 words.
82,493 characters (no spaces)
101,967 characters (with spaces)
1651 lines
82 pages at double spaced
(45 pages single)
347 paragraphs.
1576 sentences.
Averages:
4.8 Sentences per paragraph
11.5 words per sentance
4.3 charactrs per word.
Readability:
1% passive sentences (AUGHHHHH NOOOOOO)
74.7 Flesch Reading Ease
5.6 Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level
Fascinating. Is this good or bad for a rough draft that I’ve not edited? HEHE
Wow, now i’m tired… OK, off to bed!

I never understood what is truly wrong with passive sentences if they get the point across. I know I don’t fumble when I read them. Usually when a prof wants me to change it to non-passive, the sentence looks all funky cause it worked more naturally as passive. :p

it all depends
is this the entire story or are you partically through the draft?
some passivity is okay = you’ll probably find it in dialogue – where passsivity is okay because that is how people talk.
Low reading ease is good – becasue the average reading level your local paper is written at is I believe an eighth grade level.

I don’t know how to explain my aversion to passive voice. It just doesn’t seem to flow as smooth a lot of times. At least for me. I figure for not even looking for passive voice, to only have 1% passive in that much writing is not too shabby. I’ll be trying to knock that 1% out on rewrite though! HEHE Though passive is used all the time in dialogue and I bet that’s where my passive content came from. 😉

Nope, this is just the first 8 chapters. 🙂 Rough draft.
And I just told someone else that I bet the passive voice was in the dialogue! HAHA
As for the reading level, I just wonder what THIS scale is. What it means. And that Reading Ease? What’s that? *SHRUG* I like to kep my reading level lower though just so that people will be able to read. Not that I don’t mind in depth complicated stuff… but you want your book to appeal to as many people as possible! If they are struggling through your text then that’s going to cause problems!

Awww..
It’s kind of fun when you get on a roll.
But bad things are happening like me not cleaning the house.. I have a mountain of laundry… etc etc. Thankfully there’s not a whole lot in my house so it isn’t really THAT bad… in theory.

Re: Thanks!!
i think i would write something complex about how people relate to each other. the complexity would be why i have no idea, at this point, what story i have to tell. another friend said to write what you know, but how cool is an autobiography of sorts? i dunno. there’s a story in me somewhere, but i have a feeling i would have to work forever or writing coherently. i’m all scattered jabber, lol

Re: HAHA!
there’s two ways to look at that. I have written a lot. It’s long. It’s exciting to see.
But – is a whole lot of bad stuff better than a little? As you can tell I am pretty insecure about its quality.

ROFL… well just look at some of our “classics” when they were paid by the word. *SHUDDER* you HAVE to be better than that. 🙂
I’m pretty insecure about the quality of my book as well. But I’m still plugging away! I bet yours is great… keep up the good work.
I had another writing excercise today. I used one of my characters from my book. I don’t know if I will post in journal or not… we’ll see..

Well I got most of the chores done!! The floors are swept, just need to run the vaccuum. But baah. Given the weather I think I’m going to hold off till Friday. Unless there’s a showing. The dishes are done. We are eating. Trash is gone. So all that’s left is this little table next to me on the sofa, which is mostly done and laundry! 🙂 YAY!! Everything that is left, I will do in a couple of hours after kids are in bed and taken care of. 🙂 Shouldn’t take very long.
As for that little blurby… don’t know if it works for anything!! But I’m looking forward to writing in my novel.. woohoo

I’ve got one last load of laundry still (was waiting till the last possible minute) and I’m going to go start it now.
I’m finishing packing my telescope. I’ve got snacks and stuff. I’ll start packing clothes as soon as I pull out the laundry from the dryer. WOOT.
