I’m literally walking out the door, late for Sacrament this afternoon when there was a knock on my door. I open it and it is my neighbour. The one from yesterday. Turns out his network did get up last night as I saw… but he couldn’t get his wireless to work. It would connect but he could not do anything.

So he brought over his laptop and we fiddled with it. Couldn’t get it to work. So we went over to his house to use the desktop to access the router. Figured, fine, we’ll take all the security off and we can build it from the ground up. So he heads over and I gather up all my stuff and put in a movie for the kids and head over.

So he’s looking at all the settings and we’re chatting. Well guess what we found after looking at all the little tabs for his linksys? Found the error and yup, it was something silly as usual. It’s usually something simple and silly. “Is it plugged in?” Anyway, he had put in his passkey and then there’s a button to push to generate the hexidecimal WEP key. Yeah he did not hit that. So his laptop was plugging in the WEP key but he’d never actually completed turning on WEP I guess you could say! So what do you know? Yup now he has a working wireless with WEP.

We then proceeded to MAC it and lock his network to two computers. So now it is only the desktop and the laptop that can get on it. Tested it with my laptop… sure it wanted on the network but it couldn’t access a darned thing. WOOT.

So now they think they are all cool… with their network and all. And hopefully they are a little safer! Plus now they get to go to work and sound uber geeky talking about how they locked down their network to keep wardrivers off. *SNICKERS*

Meanwhile the other guy, he’s all like “So how do I hide files on my computer so he can’t see them” and the first guy was like “Hey! She’s over here to help me, not you!” HEHE Uh oh… *ROFL*
