Yesterday Sir Megabyte went fishing with his (male) family on the ocean. He left Tuesday after work and they headed out at 0 dark 30 yesterday morning for a five hour tour. (Thank goodness it wasn’t a three hour tour, eh?) Today he was heading back and we decided to meet up. So off I go with the kids and we met up in Dahlgren which is right on the VA side of the Potomac before you cross and enter Maryland.
So we tried to go there, but of course there’s a base and it takes up all the beach front property. Reminded us a bit of Jacksonville. No beachfront property there, the base takes it all up! Not that we cared while living there, we always went to the pool in Tarawa Terrace (housing) where the water was clean and warm, there was no sand, and even better… no barracks rats.
So we headed down the road and ended up in Colonial Beach. The beach was near deserted. But there were a few people and there was nothing up so it must be reopened. That’s good. The water was of course grungy (hello it’s the Potomac!) and the beach was rocky sandy. But we walked up the beach and out onto a pier and had a good old time.
The boys LOVED it. Of course the funniest thing is while we were eating lunch, Caramon goes “Mommy, why don’t you like the beach?” He didn’t understand I’m just not into gross water and sand. I’m just as happy going to the pool. Go to the beach to say you’ve been and then the rest of the season head it to the pool! Anyway he goes, “Are you CHICKEN???” Well at the beach? He wouldn’t get near the water… I tried to get a picture of the boys with the water lapping at their feet (like I was going to let them go swimming in the potomac? Not hardly!) and he kept shrieking if it came anywhere near close to his feet! And he wanted to know if I was chicken?? Bwahahahaha
Anyway, I’ll have pictures up on the website soon. I’ll post when they make it up.

Re: Ou est la plage
not sure if she has any actual greek in her or not. Could, we’re such a crazy mix of nationalities… the great American Melting Pot at work!
Her father served in the Navy, and was stationed in Greece for a while. She loved it there. She was about 16 or 17 when they moved back stateside. For the greeks though, that’s as good as 100% greek! 🙂 So growing up we always went to the Greek festivals and the restaurants and at one point I could count and say a few words in Greek. Never enough to carry a conversation but enough to say “Hi, how are you” and “Where’s the bathroom?”
