Back when we went to NJ and it was the Blue Moon and I wanted to take those astrophotos and I couldn’t get my attachment to work so I could hook up my camera to my scope i was really upset. I thought I’d lost a piece or it hadn’t come in. Well I hadn’t had time to run into the camera shop due to always having the kids or having my mum with me. So today I went in and I was going to ask “How does this work? Do you have something to fix it?” (OK, I’m REALLY hoping the clouds go away for tonight’s eclipse!)
So I’m fiddling with it showing the lady what I mean and guess what I figure out in about two seconds? Yeah how it goes together. Nope, works just fine. Apparently I was just really ditzy back a few months ago! I felt dopey. Well then we got to looking and this one piece, well it can be used with other attachments. It’s the part that actually sits on the camera itself. Basically there are two parts. One screws onto the threads of the camera. The other screws into the eyepiece of the telescope. Then you screw these two pieces together. Voile. Well the piece on the camera is nothing more than something to step you up to the right size. Guess what, it’s a popular size!
So if I leave it on, I can get filters and lenses really easy. Glad I actually took the piece in. We actually tried a Canon telephoto lens that is 2.5 Rock on! That would have been useful at the game earlier this year! And it’s far cheaper than the Olympus setup they sell on their website. WOOOHOOO. Yay!! Anyway, talk about exciting news there! Much more camera options open to me. Frankly I had wondered if this was the case, but I never took the piece in to ask them. I’m very excited.
I plan on purchasing three filters next month or maybe December. A UV filter with a coating. It will protect my lens from harm and from UV rays. Also a polarizer which I’m not even sure how to explain. Plus a spot filter for fun. This is what makes the center clear and the rest kind of blurry. The filters are still buy two get one free. So I can get three for 45 bucks.
So super exciting. I am glad I finally got time to really go into a camera shop and ask with no distractions. (OK said distractions are CUTE and CUDDLY but distracting none the less… ahhh kids!) The polarizer is 30 bucks. Ouch.
I still think I need to take a camera/picture class.
Well, hopefully now that I have the setup I can take some neat shots of the eclipse tonight! We have a lot of white fluffy clouds though so I’m not sure… Wish me luck!
