Where are you? I will hunt you down and get you and bring you to your knees with a giant feather.
That movie was awesome. Very well done. Freakish. My mum and I were clinging to the sofa.
It really got to us. Why? Timing mostly. It was set in April 2002 as the start of the Smallpox. Caramon had his last chemo treatment in February. He then had to have a lobectomy to remove part of his lung. That did not go well. He spent just over 3 weeks recovering in the hospital because his lung kept collapsing. At one point he had FOUR tubes coming out of his chest sucking this gunk you do NOT even want to contemplate out of his chest and keeping his lung inflated.
In June he was to get his IV line removed when he came down with a mysterious infection. We were slapped into the hospital on July 3rd due to mysterious infection which they could not identify. In the Isolation Ward. The Infections Disease people were all over us like a bad suit. We couldn’t leave the room, which had it’s own air circulation, without masking.
Finally? It was determined to be some super rare fungus. So rare, Caramon was only the second case at that hospital. Turns out it is more “common” in TX. Only thing we could fathom was perhaps one of the mexicans brought it from that area when they came to work. At the time a lot of construction was going on in our neighbourhood and the builder had brought in a lot of Mexicans. For the most part they seemed like great guys, don’t get me wrong. It’s just the only way we could figure out something from the TX area had come to Columbus. We didn’t know anyone from TX or who had been to TX to bring it back. We will never really know for sure…
This led to me never sleeping for another 8 weeks. 8 weeks of Antibiotics. Fancy ones that I had to make myself daily. Had to be infused via IV. Two different ones on different rotations and long infusions. At one point? I stuck a needle completely through a finger.
Why all of this? Because this is the time frame that the smallpox movie was set. If that had been real? Caramon would have been completely unable to be vaccinated. He was immuno compromized. When that mother lost her son? We were barely able to contain ourselves.
Liss, great movie hun. ((HUGS)) Doesn’t mean I don’t want to tickle ya! *GRINS*

I can related. I had to travel from KC to Chicago a couple of weeks after 9/11. While I was there I came down with a nifty naggy cough. Came home cough got worse. Got deep. Didn’t go away. Went to allergist because I was coughing without sinus crap that went with it. The nurse practitioner said my lungs were gunky (she sounded surprised). Naturally I got put on antibiotics. This was about the same time that they anthrax scares were going on. Didn’t freak me out at the time but watching that movie … :::Shudder:::
that and right now due to no flu shot I’m a hand santizer/hand washing fanatic. reaaaaaaaaaallly made me think.

awwwwwwwwwww
I liked the format – but then you’re talking to someone who spent the last two weekends watching wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much history channel. Heck for that matter I was watching a few documentaries sunday afternoon on the history channel about russia and stalin – so I’m prolly used to the format.
Reminded me of a movie that was on back in the 80’s – a terrorist group (home grown not outside the country) set got their hands on a nuclear bomb. Was set in Charleston SC. Movie was done in a news report format.

done in a news report/as it is happening format. I saw it when it was originally on- people freaked because they thought it was real.

Ugh, that would be freaky to think about!
I’m not a believer in the flu shot. But why don’t you go get one if you want one so bad?

not here it isn’t. it is still restricted here. you can only get a shot if you are a senior citizen, under the age of two or have specific health issues.

Oh really? They are telling people if they want one to go get one here. Come on out. 🙂 You’re probably better off without it. Everyone I know who gets the shot gets the flu. My grandpa is the only person here who got the shot that I know. Guess who the first one to get the flu was?
