And no, I don’t wish it were Sunday. Seems those aren’t that restful anymore either. But, at least I’m being manic with good things. Besides, we all know what they say… no rest… yeah, let’s leave it at that.
I had plans for today. Then I got a little crazy. What? You are not surprised? I know exactly what you are thinking. "Um, Lady, you are completely certifiable." Hey, it’s why you love me, right?
I knew it! See. So here’s what happened.
My day began like any other. Waking up far too early after far too little sleep to drive Som to Seminary. When I REALLY came out of the cloud haze, I prepared myself and went off to a meeting with the Young Women’s president to talk camp ideas. Yay! Good thing? I’ve got some nifty ideas that I’ve come up with and/or blatantly stolen (and sourced) from awesome websites.
One of my favourites is my own personal take on the girl version of the Armor of God. Oh come on. You know it. Helmet, breastplate, sword, yadda yadda. Now, I love my Bible as much as the next person and wouldn’t normally question it. Yet this one? It’s rather boy-friendly. We’re GIRLS! We need to be pretty! We need to glorify in our girly-girl selves!
So I got to thinking up some really cute ideas to girlie the armor without taking puffy paint and fuzzy stickers to plate mail. Probably a good idea, right? I’m thinking plate mail might not like that sort of attention.
Lucky for me, the girly version turned out pretty cute. So I was tasked with making some mockups. What did I do? I took my mum along for the ride!
Us crazy gals headed on over to JoAnne’s and played with all sorts of pretty fabrics, ribbons, beads, and whatnot. In the end I dropped loads of cash and we came home and played with things to make some mockups and also do some research to know what sort of supplies we’d need for the girls.
I know you are probably like, "Oooh the Lady got all crafty again! We want pictures!" Well, tough. If I gave you pictures it would spoil the fun of debuting this for the girls should my mockups make it past the presidency. Sorry. Maybe I’ll post something later. If I remember. (HAHA Yeah, I know. I always forget to blog! I used to be so good though!)
However… I thought I would share with you my groovy ideas to make the armor of god all princess-friendly!
See… my thought process was that if we are all Daughters of God we are noble heirs. We are royalty! So we should be decked out as such!
I turned that helmet into a crown! Girls need crowns. Crowns are good. Crowns are also sparkly. All girls who are royal need sparkly!
Sandals? OK, so my thought is to leave those really as sandals. Hello? You can’t get more girly than shoes, right?
Shield? That’s totally a bouquet. Craft time! I’m just not telling what kind of bouquet!
Sword? OK, well this particular Lady actually happens to like good steel. I prefer double edged steel. I really like long swords because hello… the bigger the sword the better. However there’s also something to be said about short swords. But, I think we should be in our royal attire. Right? So that means a scepter! What royal woman is without our royal scepter? None! (Or wand for those who might want to think along those lines.) I’m still trying to figure out how to do this one. I’m looking for ideas! So far I have "a dowel can be used for a handle."
Belt of Truth? Well it’s still a belt… but far more feminine. We need a nice girdle. Now before you start thinking of some sort of creepy rubber undergarment your grandma might have worn, that’s not it. This is a real nice belt sometimes made of fabric or beads. I’m still contemplating this one. To make it out of ribbon might be big bucks. We’ll see what I come up with.
Breastplate – OK, so this one has been a little tough for me. My mother said to just do a nice necklace, but I worried that might not be quite big enough to really be "armor". I could make a sash, like the kind Miss America wears. I could even embroider "Righteousness" on it since it’s supposed to be the "breastplate of Righteousness". Or maybe princess? If you have a groovy idea, do share.
Now, I’ve given away too many of my secrets. So sorry. You are done with that. Just know that it will be pretty awesome! I’m most excited!
I also worked a little bit on my photo board for the Bishop’s office. The paper background is up on the corkboard. I’ve got *just* enough room for the photos. I wish we could get a second board approved so it could look a little nicer.
The bad thing? I can’t find my laminating sheets for the photos. *SOB* I also need some decorative thumbtacks. If I can solve these two things I can get the board finished up so we can present it to our Bishop. I think it will make a nice addition to his office. I’m glad someone asked me to get involved in such an awesome idea! Never fear… I WILL blog about that one!
I will say that you don’t realize just how big the youth program is until you are taking individual photos of each teen and try to cram all of their pictures onto one measly corkboard!
I’ll also say that hands down we have the best group of youth ever. They rock!
Did I mention the shirt I was working on? Yup! I thought maybe I’d finally have a great chance to play with my nused Embroidery Machine. No secrets there either. Sorry. You’ll just have to wait! I had to turn that craft over to my mother. I’ll figure out some kinda craft soon. I promise!
So that’s my manic Monday for ya. Crazy times! FUN times!
I’m super excited about everything going on though! This is going to be a super crazy busy crafty week for me!
