If it weren’t for all the insanity in my life, I would be absolutely bored. You realize this, right?
I’m guessing that before coming here, there was a line for "drama" and I, being the special sort of person that I am, said: "Oh, drama? I LOVE the theatre! Give me LOTS and LOTS!" Yup. that’s gotta be what happened!
I don’t have a lot of time so here’s what happened as fast as I can type it!
Last night was my local congregation’s (ward) night to go to the Temple. We were aiming for a 7 PM meeting time. I hit the interstate around 4:30. It’s about one hour to get to the Temple from that point… if it’s good traffic.
It was Friday. In the Spring. Combine everyone trying to skip out for a fun filled May Day weekend with crazy construction (there’s ALWAYS crazy construction) and you get: Nightmare. Smooth sailing until I got to the District. The last ten miles of the trip took over one hour.
I arrived at 6:58 PM. Needless to say that did not give me enough time to cross the parking lot, get inside, get upstairs, get changed, and make the 7:00 PM slot.
I was sad. I usually go alone, so being there with my ward family or stake family always gives me a little special cheer. It’s fun to worship with someone you know, and it’s even better to worship with lots of someones you know! (Uh, don’t complain about my English, I’m working on little sleep!)
Yeah I was a little sad, but still happy I could make it! It’s a special place and so just getting there is wonderful! I’d hoped for stragglers like myself, but nope.
Well, I had an interesting experience in there which I don’t have time for now… I’ll post later. I promise.
I left the Temple last night and was headed home. Everything was peachy keen until I hit the bridge at the O harbour. (Seriously, I can’t spell it on a good day people. You know, exit 160-ish.)
A little bit after that I noticed my dashboard lights were kinda dim. So I fiddled with the dial, but nothing helped. Weird. A couple minutes later, I noticed… I think my headlights were out! Seriously? It’s like way late at night! What the heck? (There’s actually a lot of lights at that point on the road.)
Sure enough about a second later some guy passes me, honks his horn like a wild person, but because it’s dark all I notice is he’s waving like a loon. Probably shouting, "Hey crazy lady, you have no lights on!"
Well, that was pretty scary so I thought, "Oh I’ll take this exit here and there’s a Church building, I’ll park there and call for some help."
I took the exit and OMG it was PITCH BLACK. I could see NOTHING. So I tried to pull over, but I couldn’t see anything so I just stopped. It’s dark, there’s nothing but trees, and I’m not even sure what the deal is… I take that exit all the time coming off Northbound. It looks totally different coming from Southbound!!!!
Now I know I’m in one heck of a jam, because it’s a good half hour from home, it’s super late, and it’s really dark. I couldn’t get out of the car and walk anywhere and I knew I couldn’t stay there!
HELP!
In the end, here’s what happened. I knew a lady from my ward had left at the same time so was probably near me. I contacted her babysitter (BTW MY FAVE YOUNG WOMAN EVER, sorry young women but she saved my life so she gets automatic fave status!!!!) who contacted her. By some miracle she was only a couple miles away AND saw a State Trooper. She pulled over, the state trooper came up and together they went off on a rescue mission.
They found me and the state trooper set out flares. He was fantastic, very concerned, got me a tow truck, and I had my van towed to the aforementioned church building.
SO here’s the weird car thing:
So the headlights went out. While I was stopped, trying to get a hold of the babysitter, my engine died and then my car would not even turn over. So I turned everything off, removed my key from the ignition, and started praying that I’d be fine in the pitch black. My headlights started strobing, my dash lights stayed on even though they were off, and it was just freaking insane. By the time the cops got there, my door locks would not work – they are automatic.
At the Church we were able to jumpstart my car. However as soon as we disconnected the jumper cables, my headlights shut off again. Maybe my car would have driven to Fredericksburg, however there was no way I could drive with no headlights.
We decided to park the car there and head home.
I got in around 2:30-ish. My goodness.
I have NO clue what’s wrong with my car or what to do. Feel free to offer advice.
Looks like my birtha-mom’s day festivities will involve car repair?
It’s always something! I’m completely freaked out. It was very scary. My car wasn’t even really off the road and onto the shoulder. I’m so glad that people were able to find me quickly and that I wasn’t hit, hurt, attacked, lost, or anything worse.
Thank you to EVERYONE involved with helping me out last night. From the support, to the help, to the love… it is MOST APPRECIATED.
I love all of you!!!! I’m pretty darn glad to be alive today!
Gotta run… ((HUGS))
