For the last two weeks, I kept a candle burning in my home to remind myself to pray for a peaceful home. Last week I began adding in quiet music.  I really tried hard to become a kind and gentle mother and wife. I am hoping my November personal challenge (and extended to everyone else) to “cultivate an attitude of gratitude” will go hand in hand with this attempt to “make my home a haven.”

Sometimes the music worked, and other times it did not seem to bring much peace at all. One day, I felt exceptionally overstressed.  I turned on hymns, hoping the soothing voices of The Mormon Tabernacle Choir might work wonders upon me. Sadly, not so much. The kids were still a tad too wild and it took far too long.

Yesterday, however, I played Classical Music after church and we worked to replace our games.  In a fit of unbridled insanity, I felt the need to begin a closet remodel. Do not ask me why considering HandyMan Megs would spend this week in seven different states and thus be completely useless as a HandyMan. Furthermore, NaNoWriMo began today and I never plan any major projects in November to allow for banging away on the keyboard.

I told you, insanity. While things are not truly replaced and will take a while to shake out, we spent yesterday trying to fix the games and the bulk of the various closet items in our home office. The beautiful orchestra music filled the air and I loved every second of it. Do not ask me why Halloween, a day usually hectic to begin with, was the most peaceful day of the week, but I am going to fully attribute it to a week of peaceful music and our burning candle.

We can be taught… it’s a miracle!

Week 3: List a few of the spots in your home that make you visually stressed because of all the clutter. Now go buy something for that spot – like a basket to put it all in! Work on cleaning up clutter – throw things away and encourage the children and your hubby to do the same in their bedrooms or offices or work areas this week. While you’re at it – clean up some clutter in your spiritual life. What gets in the way of your peace spiritually?

I’m looking forward to this week! I’m always trying to get rid of clutter spots in my home! Hey, we are a family of four. We have them. I am looking forward to looking towards this as a metaphor for my spiritual life.  I’ll see you in a week to report back! Have a peaceful week!
