Tonight is the big REO Speedwagon, Journey, Styx concert that I got tickets for for hubby. I forgot to go buy earplugs for the noise. Hopefully I will survive. And I’m hoping there will be no smoking since it is indoors. I will take some books just to be safe though. I know, I’m a nerd. Taking books to a rock concert. But it is FOUR HOURS LONG!!! If I listen to music for an hour I want a book! HAHA
I’m kind of excited. I’ve never been to a concert and hubby and I are going together. How fun!
Of course I barely know any songs by these people… just the handful that is on the radio… but hey… those are good songs! 🙂

Well, if you like the music and don’t mind crowds, I think concerts can be quite fun! As for smoking … well, there shouldn’t be smoking allowed in the hall but that doesn’t, of course, mean there won’t be. With those bands, you should at least expect people to be hodling up lit lighters every so often. 😉 And the last classic rock concert I went you could every so occasionally smell pto smoke but … Maybe you’ll get lucky and won’t get smoked upon. 🙂

Yes I’m going to post about it this weekend, I promise!
Well I wasn’t worried about smoking until I talked to my MIL. She said “Oh everyone smokes anyway.” I said “Well it isn’t allowed in public areas here.” She said “It doesn’t matter, people smoke anyway.” So she made me really nervous. Of course she seems to think cigarettes are god’s gift to people and is annoyed that so many places aren’t allowing smoking anymore. Me? I’m happy. I am allergic and my son had cancer in his lungs. Anyway… there was absolutely no smoking going on except in the one little designated area on the far side from me. (Heard someone talking about having to haul buns over there during breaks.) So I was very happy!

Yeah, I’m surprised there was that little smoking going on. Either they’re being better at keeping it out or people are being more responsible … not sure which is less incredible!
I used to have quite negative reaction to smoke. I still don’t like it but I don’t gag as much as I used to by just being around a little. Not sure if I like the fact I’ve gotten used to it. 😛 I haven’t had bad luck at concerts but I know it’s happened. I just don’t get why people think they need to smoke at these things. I mean, don’t these people have jobs where they aren’t allowed to smoke? I know they can go outside during breaks or to a smoker’s lounge … but surely they don’t take a smoke break several times in a two hour period (the length of most concerts)! I’ve gone to various parties (Marcon, Pennsic, etc) and see the same people smoking a new one every few minutes … Does this mean they never go to the bank and have to wait in line longer than that, or ever go into a hospital, or store, etc? What’s the need to smoke that often if they can hold off at other times? :p
Okay, smoke rant done. 🙂 Glad you like the concert! Looking forward to more detailed about the music / atmosphere, etc. 🙂

Hey I totally hear your smokey rant. I’m highly allergic and it makes me so ill. And I just don’t understand these people who HAVE to smoke. TOtally what you said. Another one I don’t get is people driving down the freeway in their car smoking. With the windows up. OK… 1st… small space and smoke.. duh! 2nd… um… something that runs on GASOLINE and is highly flamable and you want something that is smoking and burning and can catch your vehicle on fire. Um… er… rolling bomb mean anything? I always picture these people accidently setting their car on fire and it exploding or something. Yeah, it is extremist… but in theory, couldn’t it happen?

Also the fact that smoking in a car can drastically reduce its resale value. I know a few friends who smoke who won’t do that in their car or let anyone else for that reason. It gets into the apolstry(sp?) and is hard to get out. Luckily I have a rule that no one will ever smoke in my little station wagon as long as she’s in my name. 😀
