OK, I don’t know what to bring up for Enrichment. I’m supposed to bring one book to talk about. How do I choose just one? What genre do I choose? ARGH!
So here’s what I’ve grabbed and brought upstairs to possibly bring up. All stuff I’ve read in about the last year or so.
Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West
Suzanne’s Diary for Nicholas
The Book of Fred
Catch Me If You Can
Legally Blonde
The Gates of Zion
Artemis Fowl
Murder Boogis with Elvis
The Chronicles of Pern: First Fall
Let’s see, Wicked is a political piece set in Oz. And it is from the point of view of the baddie. OOOH AHHHH. And no, this is NOT a children’s book. Not at all. So unless your child is a teenager, I would highly recommend them NOT reading this book.
Diary is actually a Patterson romance drama type book thing. He writes sad type romance books. No smut. Very sweet story. But mega tissue alert.
Fred is just a strait fiction that was fascinating. It was about a girl who’s parents were in a “cult” and she’s been put into social services and enters the “real world” and how that affects her and how the family she lives with affects her. You want an awesome look at the relationships of people, this is the book for you. It was awesome. I HIGHLY recommend it.
Catch Me now has a movie based on it that was OK but they embellished on a life that needed no embellishments. This is a true story of one of the world’s greatest con-artists. I mean think Pretender. Got it? Awesome read. And let me tell you, if you are nervous about biography type books, read this one. It will kill that nervousness. This was so wonderfully written.
Legally Blonde, the book that became a hit movie. And man, was it good! We read this for Book Club last year and wowsas. I loved it. But as you know I’m a nut for LB. This was actually not a biography, but the author kind of based it off her experience as a fashion major turned law student at Stanford.
Gates of Zion. Part of a massive series. It is about jews and the series is actually a set of three series. The first series is set in pre WW2 Europe. This book is the first in the second series which is in post WW2 Jerusalem. I haven’t gotten to the third series yet. I think it is after Isreal is made a nation. This book has it all. Romance, check. Intrigue, check. Mystery, check. Action, check. You name it, you want it, you like it? It is in here. š And the series is massive but you blow through the books.
Artemis is a children’s series. If you like Harry you’ll love Artemis. Think Harry told from the naughty naughty slytherin side. WOOHOOO Artemis is a crime genious and he’s 12! He’s rich like Batman. And? He hooks it up with the fey, man. OK, so they have a love/hate relationship… tis OK, right?
Elvis: 2 grandmas in the south keep stumbling on dead bodies. How can you go wrong? HAHA! Funny, lightweight mysteries. so sad the author passed. No more to come. *SIGH*
Pern: Anne McCaffrey and awesome sci fi. Great for the person just dabbling in sci/fi fantasy. Great for the person who loves sci-fantasy. In fact that person has probably already read… I couldn’t decide on a sci fi book to take because they are all just so good… So I went with Pern. Can’t go wrong with a Pern novel! I meand… dude… dragons. š
There are so many other books that I picked up and put back. *SIGH* Plus there’s books I’d have loved to have brought up but unfortunately I don’t own them so I didn’t want to go and talk without having it in my hot little hands. C’est la vie.
I’m such a reading nut. I haven’t been reading as much because of the holidays and the tiredness, but I need to get back into it. You guys do not even WANT to know how long my book list is! HAHA. It is rather scary in fact. I believe I hit the 100 mark. Again. GRRR. I seriously will spend all summer reading if I can to try to knock that list down. Maybe I should get the books and start with the shortest and move up to the longest. HAHA
Speaking of books. I have 1 week to read The Secret Life of Bees. What page am I on? Well I just picked it up off my bookcase. So that’s soooo not good. EEEK. I forsee Lady Ozma spending all day Saturday locked in the bedroom reading. EEEK.
By the way, I got everything done but my dishes. I guess I’ll do them tonight when I get home from Enrichment.

Re: tell me more
OMG… it rocks.
OK, start with teh second series written, it is a prequel actually. It is the pre ww2 one. It is in Europe. The main character of the book is Eliza, she’s a fiddle player for the vienna orchastra. She is also like best buds with Leah. Anyway, her father is a jew but her mother is full on aryan. They are from Germany. They change her name due to the uprising ickness so she’s got papers that do not associate her with her jew father. Cause that would be all kinds of bad given the social status. So she finds out that this friend in the orchastra (after he’s captured) has been working with of all peeps, her dad! They are smuggling children out of the country to saftey! Well she’s a kind hearted woman (read bleeding heart if you want to pretend to be on the nazi side). So she picks up the work. She hooks up with this American reporter. That’s the basic gist of the series. The thing between her and the reporter is almost romantic comedy. But there’s intrigue and danger and etc. It is awesome.
There are five books. The last couple could actually be the intro to the second series (the first one written). The second series has 5 books as well. It is in Israel post WW2 with all the refugees flocking there and the conflict there and the attempt to make the country of Isreal.
The final series has five books as well I believe. And it is post making a nation. And then apparently from what i’ve been told flashes back to old old old old old Jerusalem.
It all sounds awesome. I’ve read the whole first series and half the second series (chronologically).
Enrichment is what we call our once a month church ladies group night. We all go over to the church and do whatever is planned. This month it is a literacy. They are making some kind of little accordian book. And some of us are talking about books. š

sounds very kewl – I might have to recommend these books to my sister – she is Messianic (jewsish in practice but they recognize Yeshua (Jesus to us) as the Messiah)

Oh your sister will love it. Talks about the Messianic as well. I think wasn’t Leah Messianic? I don’t recall. Hmmm. I know that there were some I think…
