Time to vote… I’ll of course be voting YES for the school levy. Ohio people, your schools need the money because jerk-was gov increased all these taxes last year yet slashed school funding by a fortune. they really do need the money. Now i personally feel that the gov should be held accountable and give some of this new tax money to the schools… but we need a stop gap measure while we gripe to the state.
I’m most stressed out though over the primary. I’m not sure who to vote for. FYI I’m independant. I don’t like affiliating myself with either party because I do not agree with the party lines of either. I consider myself what you can call a fence sitter. I’m either a liberal conservative or a conservative liberal… whatever. I don’t particularly care as I go by issues. I tend to be conservative in nature but realize that a lot of laws we must look at the bigger picture and be more liberal. I cannot make decisions based on beliefs for others.
So anyway, the way I see it, GWB is guaranteed on the ticket so I need to look at the other side. So that I do my part to make sure there are two good candidates. I’ve no real gripes with GWB. I think he got slammed with some unfortunate crap but he handled it well. But I know there are a lot of people who dislike him strongly. So I want to make sure good opposition is on the ticket so no matter what the outcome this fall is… I’ll be happy and hopefully our nation will be well. I know, I’m overthinking things. But I’m still in Ohio and my vote is triple important in a presidential race. The president pretty much has to carry Ohio.
But ugh… I’m not sure I can make this decision. I feel really overwealmed unlike last time. *SIGH*

JOHN KERRY! You know you wanna! lol j/k.
You’re lucky Ohio’s important in an election…here in Massachusetts my vote doesn’t really matter TOO much because the state pretty much always votes democratic…it’s basically a given. So yah. Go politics!

To be completely honest, I’m not sure why I say John Kerry…I’m kinda going with my gut on this one. Plus, since I’m only 18, this will be my first election, and I’m still kinda influenced by my parents. And my mom says John Kerry because we’re friends with the Mass. State Rep in our district and HE says John Kerry. So um yeah. haha And this is going to sound kinda dumb but I took this online quiz where you matched up how strongly you were with or against all these policies, and then it tallied it up and gave you who you best matched with. I matched 100% with the Konichin guy or however you spell that, but I’m not gonna vote for him because he doesn’t really have much of a chance at this point. John Kerry was my next guy, though, at 98%…so yeah. My government professor says Kerry pretty much has the candidacy (is that a word? lol) so I dunno…I guess we’ll see!

I did that thing too and I believe it also said Kerry. HAHA
I think Kerry pretty much has the candidacy as well, but nothing is decided till after super tuesday in May.
I usually vote based on issues and to all hell and damnation and what have you to party and etc. But that’s because I don’t line up with either party. I tend to vote more conservative, and people try to tell me I’m republican. But there are so many republican things that I do not fall in line for. Same goes for the democratic party. I like being independant and I HATE that I have to go in and actually claim a party tomorrow. Last presidental election I went and had to claim republican so I could vote for that candidate. I mean any idiot could tell Gore was making the democratic. (my guy still didn’t make it… oh well) I then had to perservere through all these calls from the republican party. “oh get involved with us and our campaign” NO! I seriously did not make my mind up for the November election until about 8:30 AM election day. That was a close one for me.
The first election I voted in was horrible. It was between Clinton, Dole, and Perot. Well ew on Clinton. Mega ew on Dole. Perot was the only one halfway decent and he didn’t have a shot if you could put the gun ON the bullseye. I was in VA so I also felt what was the point. Dole was taking VA. So I went in and voted Perot as a protest vote. Of course, Clinton won and we had another four years of THAT. Bleh. (Liked Gore, hated Clinton) Of course, lord help us if Dole had made office. *SHUDDER* At least it looks like you are going to get two halfway fair candidates! ROFL. I think I could be happy either way in the fall if it is Bush v Kerry. I hope. hehe… We’ll see.
Today I’m making out a Dean v Kerry v whomever else list of pros and cons.

Being from Massachusetts, I find myself being influenced all around by the democratic party…and if I had to say, I would consider myself democratic. But when I registered to vote I registered independent. I don’t want to be attached to the hip of any party!
Haha I remember that election w/ Clinton, Dole, and Perot…I was in 2nd grade. I remember watching Clinton’s inauguration in class and thinking it was the most boring thing I’d ever watched in my life lol. I think I remember my mom voting for Perot. I’m going to have to disagree with you on Ew-ing Clinton – I like him. He did a lot for our economy.
I think this year’s election will be close. But I’m not voting for Bush. I don’t like him at all. Maybe if he was a little smarter…”The vast majority of our imports come from outside the country.” Hmmm I dunno, just doesn’t sit well with me.
But yeah, I wish I could vote in the primary tomorrow but I’m at school so I’m not in the town I’m registered in. =(

Re: Yeah well I’m moving to VA
You weren’t an adult living during the Clinton era. He did some OK stuff. But he did a lot of stuff that set up a whole string of things. And as for the economy, that was on the rise when Clinton took office. you’ll watch and see that a great deal of the economic things going on are from the previous admin. And Bush’s economical problems had more to do with 9/11 than his presidency. I do not think we’d have seen near the downward slide, which we were beginning to see prior anyway, if it had not been for 9/11. Which cannot be blamed at all on Bush. I don’t particularly think you can blame anyone, but Clinton weakened our military (one of my biggest gripes with him) and he did nothing during the terrorism strikes while he was in office. Including the strike against the world trade center.
I was not at ALL happy with Clinton. I did not mind Gore. He was a great vice president and I think he helped get a lot of things pushed along during the admin. I also think Hillary did too. It was definately a team effort.
As for Bush’s intelligence, I don’t think he’s stupid. However you can definately tell that he was not equipped to speak to an entire nation when he ran for office four years ago. However he has gotten much better. But Moses stuttered and didn’t have near the education we have today and he saved his people from slavery. So that says something.
As for inports, I have no clue what you are talking about. However if he was talking about the inports that we bring in because we ship stuff overseas to begin with or was he talking about the fact no one wants to even ship overseas when they can buy stuff from there anyway… if that makes any sense… there’s a lot of outsourcing now.
BTW You should have signed up to absentee vote. I didn’t bother when I went to college and was your age but it was the year AFTER a presidential so I figured there was not much point. You then only vote on basically issues and you cant’ vote on issues in a town you aren’t living in because you can’t know the issues well enough. But with it being a presidential… yeah… If you are going to be out of town at the same college for the fall get on absentee so you can still vote.
I’ve been reading and right now I am leaning slightly more toward Kerry.
And we’ll see how the debates go. I’m from Washington and so I see how the city is really run. It’s not the president who has any power. He’s there to be a cream puff icing. Congress runs the city π HAHA Right now we have a republican capitol hill… makes me worry about getting a democrat in office. The few things that Clinton did try to do tht would have done well (very few) and have made me happier were shot down because congress screwed him. (Like giving a pay raise to the military.)
I guess my biggest thing was Clinton’s push to soften the military. “A gentler, kinder military” They are military, they are supposed to defend our freedom and if that means killing than so be it. You don’t want a bunch of pansies! HAHA

Yeah, I wasn’t an adult during Clinton, but I think people have a lot of different opinions about his presidency…because a lot of the adults around me liked Clinton…maybe it’s the area I dunno!
I realized that I should have gotten an absentee ballot but then never did…I guess March 2 kinda snuck up on me! But I definitely will get one for November, or I’ll just go home to vote. I’ll have a car next school year so that helps.
That’s so cool that you lived in Washington!! I went there for 5 days in 8th grade. It was our big trip thing that we had been planning and fund-raising for since 7th grade. It was so awesome! And then I went again in 10th grade for a band trip and we performed on the steps of the Capitol building. I love that city!

It might be the area. Then again they didn’t go through being in the military… or from growing up in the dc area… i don’t know. I know Clinton had a lot of supporters, but there were a lot against him as well. Just like now. There’s a lot of Bush supporters as well as a lot against him.
The sad thing is the economy is once more on the rise but we won’t see the full effects for another couple of years. If another democrat gets into office, he’ll get the credit. That’s how it goes though… haha
If you really study the workings of our government, it is fascinating. You start to see that what happens is an overall effect of past presidents and congress as well as what the current president does. It is easy to forget! Our government is this massively intricate thing. I wish I had paid better attention in school! π
I’m actually moving back to the DC area. I’m very excited. My husband is already there. I’m just trying to sell this house and then I’m outta Ohio for good. WOOHOO. π I can’t wait. I love DC. We’re going to live on the VA side. I can’t wait to take my kids to see DC though. It’s an amazing city!
I do hope you guys got off the mall and saw some of the other neat stuff. The National Cathedral, the holocaust museum, the hard rock cafe, the ford theatre…

The government is really cool! I have government this semester – it’s a gen ed requirement and I thought it was going to suck…but I’m actually really liking it a lot. (I’m just not looking forward to the midterm on Thurs. hehe)
Both of the times I went to DC we stayed in Alexandria, VA. I’m not entirely sure what you mean by the mall, but we did go to the Holocaust Museum and the National Cathedral. No Ford Theatre or Hard Rock though, although I did go to Hard Rock in Nashville once. We did a LOT of stuff on the trips…aww now I wanna look at the pictures from that trip. My friends and I loved our 8th grade Washington trip a lot too because it was our first time being away from our parents for an extended period of time. We were in an awesome place with just ourselves…well we had the teachers of course but it was different. I remember feeling so grown up. I’d really love to go back to DC but I want my mom to come too because she’s never been. =(
