OK, we did go and check on my granfather today. He was eating lunch in the cafeteria with his little “gossip group” and he was cracking me up. The kids were amusing them all as well. What a hoot.
After that we went to a store and purchased some towels and pants for my grandfather. We’ll have to wash them before taking them to him, but hopefully he will like them. Of course we were nice and bought him the 44’s instead of the 42’s. So my grandfather wants to apparently look like he’s 17 years old. Maybe I’ll go buy him a giant chain to hold his wallet too. HA!
Mum had to throw out a pair of her own pants as well so we went clothes shopping. Again. Today we had major luck. We hit Belk’s and they had a KILLER sale. Lots of stuff 50% off and then get this… an additional 30 after that! My mum actually bought 250 bucks worth of clothes for 70!! Holy smokes! Of course I found one of those cover dealios that I wanted. In the plus section. Figured with the cheapness… I’d check the regular section. No. Nothing. Nada. GRRR. Oh well. I spent enough money already this week. LOL.
OK… so we came home. And I really wanted to get moving. Took me a few to get mum motivated but boy did we do A TON. Wait till you hear!
OK, we actually just got done with this… but since it is a continuation I’ll mention it first. We totally finished her sewing area! WOOHOO. And OMG am I proud of her!!! OK, we totally finished it all. And I had these two different size totes. I told her that and the shoe boxes were all she could keep out. I told her all her extra fabric and any project had to go away in her sewing room. She was only allowed two. I also told her i wanted one full trash bag. I think I mentioned this before. Well get this… we ended up with empty shoeboxes1 She didn’t even use them all! And we had already tossed one trash bag and she tossed another! No kidding. And the larger tote? She ended up putting all her partial projects in that. So we just slid that into the closet of doom. Her two projects she kept out went into the table thing. Which is now clean and folded down. I swept, put things up neatly, totally wrapped it up! And she has about half another trashbag full to go! She also put lots of stuff to go to charity. And actually very little went back to the sewing room!
I’m so happy and proud. And when I was done worker ant playing and putting stuff away and cleaning? We both wanted to cry. It looks so great. And she was totally gushing about how she could now actually WORK.
Mum said I could post pictures. She said I could even (after hanging head in shame jokingly) post a before picture. I can’t wait to take some “after” pictures. I’ll show them as soon as I do that.
OK, here’s what we actually did first though. It was totally a random decision that we weren’t planning on. Mum was grousing over how small her kitchen is and she had no storage space. I couldn’t believe it. Of course after a decade of small kitchens… I was mad! (OK, my house that i loved so dearly had a great kitchen I adored… but other than that… we have pretty much had small kitchens.) I told her “You have tons of space!” So we decided to clean sweep that away. Well we have done almost everything under the counters. There are 8 drawers and four cabinets. (Not counting the under the sink cabinet.) We actually did all but two drawers and one cabinet. (I had done the under the sink cabinets back when I cleaned up the floors and counters. One drawer is actually all the unused knives. We looked in it and she picked out like five things she wants… but we left the rest in there. We’re not sure how to dispose of them without slicing ourselves up. The other drawer is the silverware. Under that is the cabinet we still have to go through.
Of course we have to do everything above the counters now but that’s OK. Won’t take us long I don’t think. Anyway get this. We got rid of 2 bags of trash and we filled up our two totes we’d bought for her knick knacks with stuff for charity!!! WOW. Mum went on super purge! Plus I was able to sort and stack her items going back and now we have free room and things are stacked neatly and it looks great! How exciting!
Mum is feeling real great about all the good work. She is loving it! She says it is good to get rid of this stuff, too. She’s actually getting EXCITED about it!! Wow did we ever go on a purging spree today!!! For pretty much the entire kitchen, mum sat because her back is hurting. So I got to play worker ant then as well.
We are holding off our plan to get the living room done because we are still researching. Mum says we can purge but she wants to sell the stuff. We need to find something to do to sell the stuff. She wouldn’t mind ebaying but it is so much she doesn’t really want to go through the trouble so we might try to find some consignment shop or something. We’re working on that. Plus after seeing an under the bed slidy drawer type thing, mum thought maybe we should get something like that instead for putting the knick knacks in. So we are still debating that as well.
So anyway… we did a great job today! Woohoo us!! 🙂
Oh and we did take Dad out to eat tonight. Yesterday was his birthday but he wasn’t feeling so great so we went out tonight instead. We went to the all you can eat buffet. Yum!
