I contacted Tech Support. They are having me send them my laptop. And as it turns out, they said generally with the local places they just send the computers off as well. *SIGH* Apparently that way it takes way longer as well.
So they are sending fed ex to get my laptop. But they said it should only take a week this way. So that’s good. Saying that they can fix it.
I’ve backed up my photos, my documents, my websites. I’m not sure what else I need to backup. I’ve got all my passwords written down. I’m going to hotsync my palm here in a few so that that is taken care of. I’ll still have all my addresses and notes and calendar stuff.
So anyway… I’ll have to live without my beloved laptop for a week… thank goodness I have a desktop… I think I’d go postal!! But it is in my room. So unless I’m back there… nada…
I’ll also have to get into the habit of going to LJ to post my diary entries. I use SEMagic right now for my diary. But I love my diary as it is a good way to let off steam and work through issues. As well as comment on day to day craziness! 🙂 I know it is a publick diary, but I still work through issues and stuff with it.
Thankfully next week is already picking up to be exceedingly busy. I have something Monday, Tuesday, and Wed during the day! Plus Tuesday night is stamp group and wed night is mum’s quilt guild that I think I will attend if all is going well. So maybe I’ll be OK… 🙂 The bright note is that the laptop should be back in plenty of time for Dragon Con!! I need it for DC. I don’t think I can cope that long drive… HAHA Once we get to DC I doubt I’ll have ANY time to do anything.. but any way.
OK… must boogie. I also have to go to the packing store today so that I can get stuff to ship my laptop in. I want my baby well taken care of.

blargh deadlines… eeek. Good luck getting everything done!
Though when I’m writing deadlines actually somehow work in my favour. I remember i had to write an article once and it was like 2 AM and I didn’t even have line one written. It was due in by 6 AM. Somewhere at like 3AM it struck me and I madly typed away and boom… had it submitted by 6 AM!
How freaky am I? I often wrote my school papers the weekend they were due because for some reason the deadline inspired me! Don’t ask why. Caffeine also makes me drowsy. I’m really screwed up… HAHA

Sounds like me and all the myriad term papers i had to write the last 3 years. I would do a little bit at a time and then finish out the ready to go copy the day it was due. Nothing like slacking off until the very last minute.

You mean you are supposed to do something besides slacking off until the very last minute? Geeze, they need to inform people of that then! I was always under the assumption that “deadline” meant “This is when you actually work on it”.

It’s sass right? You’re sassing me. sigh. There are many subtle lairs of slacking off; you just have to distinguish the degrees and pace yourself accordingly. In other words, don’t wait until the day of a 12 page term paper is due, to start on it, while you’re at work. (guilty as charged, heh he.)

Actually that was more sass to a former editor of mine. She was constantly on my arse about not working on my articles. She was also on all of our arses about not writing enough.
So one day I struck back. Gave her a horrendously long article and it was early. She nearly stroked out.
Said article did actually make the paper uncut somehow. Don’t ask me how. It was tremendously long. Scary long.
I will take your lesson about the 12 page term paper to heart. That does sound like not so good stuff there… eeek!
Wonder if all my grey is actually from shirking deadlines… I really do live my life by deadline means “start working now”. Of course that aforementioned editor told me deadline meant that if I didn’t have it in to her by then I’d be mower food. Hmmm…
Also said editor nicknamed a staff member “sloth” due to his slacking off skills. Now that’s slacking with style… Ahhh Sloth, wonder what happened to that guy? Hey you wouldn’t actually be Sloth would you? That 12 day term paper thing sounds like something he’d have done!

Hmmm. Sloth is a guy from the Goonies who likes Baby Ruth . . . so not me! Might be a cousin, though.
Back in my younger days, i didn’t actually read my textbooks, do my assignments or study for my tests. I ended up with a B average those first 4 semesters. It drove Rachel nuts because she would study and read and i wouldn’t. She did better than me, but i was able to scoot by with B’s and C’s.
Now, 10 years after the fact, going back to school, i actually had to read, study, outline, and research and had an A- average. So i guess it works. But i still like to slack off as much as i can. Some professors are just clueless and they’re boring. lol.
My European Enligtenment class case in point, this last semester before i graduated. The guy made no sense, didn’t know the material, and i ended up not going half the time and still got a B+.

hmmm… i definately agree that some profs just don’t realize how boring they are. I also think that some profs don’t realize how just plain goofy they are. I had a professer once who went on a rant about bunnies from the bunny book, Watership Down. I had another who raved that Forest Gump was THE best movie EVER. Oh. My. Gosh…

Oh gosh, I have blocked that horrible man from my memory. He was a freak. After he went off for almost a whole hour about the wonders of the great Forest Gump. He then forced us to watch the great Forest Gump in class. Let me tell you, when you are in a class for 50 minutes and so then of course you have the several of those minutes taken up by discussion and getting the VCR working… OMG… Forest Gump lasted forever. I thought the movie would never end.
I hate that movie.
Words cannot describe my disdain for that movie.
If your teacher was anything like this with his tangents? I pity you and marvel at your sanity. You are a better person than I…

Not quite that bad . . . all my classes were 3 hours long, so if he went off on a tangent, it lasted for longer than 50 mins. lol. I will say, his class was one of those that i could skip repeatedly and still be able to turn in my term papers and finals, and not suffer for not being there.

Oh dear, if someone gave that scary prof of mine three hours I’d worry about if there would be a massive death toll. Truly fightening.
Unfortunately this prof wouldn’t allow for skipping. He followed that stupid attendance policy to the tee. My personal view is you are paying through the nose for the class, if you don’t want to go and can pass so be it. But this cracker actually lined up a substitute when he went away and wasn’t going to be there for three classes. Any real prof would have been like “Eh, write me a paper or something” but no. This guy actually had someone come in to make us “do stuff”. And he did threaten to flunk someone because they were one absense away from the quota… “If you miss one more class that’s it. You flunk.” OMG… it’s college and I pay your salary. Get over it.
One of those substitute days we actually went to a computer lab so that people could work on a paper he’d given us. I had a laptop. Hello? I don’t want to use those dinosaur computers! But that lady was like “No way, he told me if people didn’t stick around to mark them absent.” I said “Look lady, here’s my computer, I do NOT need to do this here.” She wouldn’t let me go without the absent and since this guy was such a prick… I stayed. So I sat there playing computer chess the whole time giving the lady the evil eye. I’d actually already finished said paper and turned it in before he left because I was going out of town myself and wanted it done. So even if I did not have my own computer, I wouldn’t have been working on the stupid paper anyway.
That place was really dumb. They tried to tell me I could only get an associates degree if I took some stupid computer class on Windows. Ok, I had 3.11 on my laptop and 95 was out. They wanted me to do the POS that came before Windows for Workgroups. Hello? I told them if they made me take that class they’d be lucky if I didn’t set up an illegal bulletin board about how bad they sucked and then hacked their stuff. I mean geeze… a full length course on “point and click” on an obselete OS? You HAVE to be kidding me. But it was some requirement they had of every student that came in there. I told them I didn’t need a degree that bad and they could stuff their crappy class.
A girl has to have her standards, you know? I asked them very politely first if I could somehow Clep the class. They refused. Apparently testing out would not prove I could function around computers or some such nonesense.
Sometimes I miss college, sometimes I don’t… LOL

Some teachers are like that. I’ve had all three guys.
There are the ones that actually take roll, every class. You miss three classes, you flunk.
There are the ones that have projects and assignments given out, every class, to be turned in every class, that ensure you are there or you better have a friend taking the class with you to help you.
Then there are the ones that lecture, hand out their syllabus and class outlines, and if you aren’t there, that’s your problem, they don’t care. Just don’t miss the midterm or final and be sure to turn in that term paper.
I like option C, but had my share of A and B to know that i don’t like to be babysat when i have three kids of my own, a full-time job and don’t need to be lectured about being responsible and attending class.
I miss it enough to sign back up for next spring. sigh.

Yeah, up until I transferred to that little beach college I had all C’s except the choir/conducting prof. OK, now that’s a class you do need to attend. I didn’t mind that one. But the rest, they just didn’t care. As long as you did the work that was all that was important. They’d grade you on your work and let it stand.
Then I moved and got married and transferred to that little college on the beach. And the profs there were leaning more towards B and A. Most were more B than A but that one guy, he was the epitome of A.
That stupid sub he got was the pits. She gave me this whole lecture about this and that and so forth the taxpayers of NC paying my tuition. It was a military town so there were a lot of people there on GI Bills or that Pell Grant. I told her that no, I wrote a cheque for my tuition and frankly as a taxpayer I didn’t expect anyone to sit and stare at a wall if they had already completed an assignment. Especially when I could go to the library and do research for another class or something in order to be productive with my time. I said “Would these so called people expecting me to attend really want me here playing BattleChess?” She was not pleased. But there I sat playing BattleChess since it was the only thing I had loaded onto my laptop.
I hear ya. I’m almost 30 and am the mother to two children. I’ve been married for 10 years (in two weeks). At this point the thought of that one prof really makes my skin crawl. I think I’m a big enough girl to know how to tie my shoes and go to the potty without aid.
But I’m also considering classes next spring (I’ll have residency then) so apparently, like you, I miss it. Next spring will be determined by just how much of a financial pickle we are in with our house.

Actually, i’m thinkin of an AA in computer technology to go along with my bachelor’s, taken at the same time i start going for my master’s. I”m a glutton for punishment. But he that is without a plan is doomed to be told what to do the rest of his life.

We were paying off all our debts this year aside from those you can’t seem to be without… house and car. What a wonderful feeling. 10 years to get there but we did it. And now with our house situation we’ll probably be more in debt than we ever were on the lost money. 😦 So we’ll just have to see what we can afford. It’s hard when you are looking at a loss like that. I don’t think we’re ever going to be able to save for the kids college either, so I hope they don’t mind student loans. That house is gonna totally eat up any hope for a decent college fund for either of them.
Which is depressing. Cars are supposed to be like this. Not houses.

Houses are a good investment, but take up way too much of your time, unless you just let it fall into total disrepair, which some people do. The housing situation out here is ridiculous. On the West side of town, some house that was only 1000 square feet, if that, the people were selling for 250k, if that. It was run down, the carpet was grungey, the yard was shot, paint peeling, etc. Some person from California will be dumb enough to buy it, though. THey think they’re getting a bargain when they move here.

Houses would be a good investment… but for us it ended up going the other way. Here’s a link to my house…
http://www.residentialone.com/property/property.asp?PRM_MLSNumber=2405464&PRM_MlsName=ColumbusOH
We went into contract in the very end of July 2001. We closed in October 2001. So our house lost value due to the 9-11 recession. Then the 9-11 recession caused a major employment problem which caused foreclosures in my neighbourhood like there was no tomorrow. Then we found out that the builder did a few illegal things with the taxes so that they could get people into these homes, suddenly everyone had to pay like 3k in back taxes and their mortgages went sky high. More foreclosures. Then our park, we found out wasn’t really ours and was never going to be a park… another yay for the builder. A large tire and service center moved into the neighbourhood and onto my street. And that guy? He makes the builders look wonderful. And to wrap it all up we found out this winter that the builder (again!) didn’t build the sewer system right so there were sewer backups and it was all over the news and they put up the equivelant of a giant milk jug in the one tiny green space we had left to take all the backing up sewage… yum.
The house across from mine was on the market for 9 months. It sold for a 30k loss. They only lived in it for not quite 2 years and then moved out, abandoning it till it sold nine months later.
Housing here is insane. For the same price we paid on our brand new house in 2001 we’ll get a 30 year old house about half the size. If we move even 10 miles up the interstate you tack on another 100k for the same type of house. And it gets worse as you go up. Insanely enough, people pay. Not only that but because the houses move so fast, so many are on the market less than a week, many only one day… you can literally walk through a house that already has a contract on it. You have to pretty much make a snap decision and then offer OVER asking price in order to try to get it.
Where my husband wants to live? We’re looking at over half a million… how scary is that?? We can’t afford THAT! But my husband doesn’t believe it so I’ll be at some point going up there and looking…

You’ve just described the situation, here, in town, anyway. A lot of people are moving 20 mins away into the rural area and commuting, because the buliding and housing costs are cheaper. We got our house during a lull when it was a buyer’s market, which was good for us. Not it’s a seller market.

It’s a seller’s market here. And a buyer’s market in Ohio. I swear we went from one to the polar opposite… LOL
