Instead of being the wise gamer, I just jumped in blind and gung ho with City of Heros. Why because I am stupid!! But I had fun and now have a almost Level 3 character!! I’m going to go play some more and then I’ll give more info.
Poor Sir Megabyte. My heart goes out to him. He was all excited about his game. As was I! Hey you can play a dragon in this game so it would be fairly interesting just for that, right? OK, well the poor boy loads his game and starts patching. Starts patching like 12 hours ago or almost…
It is still patching!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s only like 3/4ths the way done… Awwwww. When he wakes up I guess he’s going to be playing Hitman or something on the XBox while waiting. 😦 I hope his download finishes so he can play!!! I really wanted to sit by him and watch him build his character. (It’s so much fun and fascinating to watch that process!)
Instead he got to watch me last night do this. So now on Liberty Server I have Arleya, champion for good! (If you play send me a shout out… not that I know how to reply yet! HAHA No one has talked to me yet.)
So anyway… I have a bit of a headache so I’m going to try to unwind… Meanwhile I’ll cross every finger and toe and hope that Sir Megabyte’s download speeds up!!!

I’ve got three characters on the Stars Wars Galaxies game. I know how fun it can be. And how frustrating and time consuming grinding out a character can be. I’m waiting for patch #10 to come out so i can start making a Jedi character. Before that, you had to grind every single profession, all 27 of them, hoping you unlocked your Force Sensitive Character Slot to be able to make a Jedi. So, some people did 5 professions and got it, some had to do all 27. It was just blind luck. Patch #10 changes it so everyone can do it without grinding away, hour after hour, building up Xp for a profession they don’t want and will drop after they master it. sigh.
I know, i ramble. After this, i might try Heroes if you guys like it.

Well I haven’t gotten into it enough..
to give you an outstanding review worthy of you dropping almost 50 for this game. However, I am enjoying it.
Right now I’m having difficulty figuring out how to finish this mission. I can’t seem to get into where I’m supposed to be… And I keep getting disconnected. Mum said cable tv was frelled so I’m wondering if that is the issue there…
Other than that, the character creation was fun. The navigation leaves a little to be desired, but I’ve gotten the hang of it so once I have played it a couple of days we’ll see if that opinion changes…
I’ve heard great thing about SWG. But we hadn’t gotten it, no clue why really. That deal you are talking about does sound rather frustrating.
Hey ramble away. I’m rather longwinded and rambly myself sometimes!!

Well, they initially weren’t even going to have Jedi characters, because the game is taking place right after A New Hope. There aren’t any Jedi. THey’re all dead. But, they’ve gotten away from pure Star Wars game history and started making it more fun for everyone. I guess that’s why the change. But it just takes forever to master characters and skills and go up in level. Hour after of grinding away. It’s alot more fun when you’re playing with people and have a Player’s Association.

Hmmm, on the one hand I think it is great they are trying to make it fun, but on the other hand what do you do about the die hard canon fans…
Then again, it could be conceivable that like Luke, there are other young jedi’s waiting to be found? So maybe they could wing it?
I played EQ so I definately understand the grinding away and taking forever to accomplish anything. And it was so expensive half the time… it seemed like you were always WORKING and SLAVING trying to scrape up plats and XP.
Gaming is always more fun with a group of people. It’s why I like multiplayer games. I have a few one person games, but it can get rather lonely. I want to upgrade our XBox with Live capability… I’m thinking… maybe Christmas? Get the year pack (oooh “free game” in that), extra headsets, and the wireless doojobby for the xbox as Sir M’s and my Christmas present. We have a couple of games with live capability. Mainly I just play Super Bubble Pop and Halo and Buffy on it though… But like Tetris you can play online, hello??? Tetris fiend! HAHA Love to share THAT addiction…

To me, SWG seemed so pointless. We really hated that one. No matter what though, we always go back and compare everything to EQ which we played for ever. I think the husband is finally just holding out until EQ2 comes out & then he’ll crack out on that one. I’m not looking forward to that.
As for CoH i’m talking to you about that in chat… aside from the cool character creation stuff, I found the game lacking.

EQ was the first
online one I played and I played it for several years. I definately relate others to that one. Probably because it was the first controls I learned as well as everything else.
I’m thinking my husband might try the same thing. Not sure if that would be good or bad. Right now I’m leaning towards bad because I have gotten to the point where I hate EQ/Sony. It’s purely the games they play. I mean like coming out with patches that they claim are really expansions and then wanting you to fork over an extra 25 bucks after you pay them 13 to play the game that month? What the freak? It is stuff like that.
Last night we found EQ with seven expansions for like 30 bucks. We wanted to die. I mean we’ve spent loads more than that over the course of the last four years. UGH! And I’m sorry, some of the expansions rocked and were worth the money but the last year or so it seems like they are not really making expansions anymore half the time.
Between that and the work of the game, which I’m sure will carry over… *SHUDDER* I’m sorry, it is a GAME and therefor FUN not WORK.
I’m not sure why we never tried SWG… For some reason it didn’t strike us. It isn’t the space thing because I beta tested Earth and Beyond and followed it about three or so months after live. I left due to the fact it was still as buggy as beta was and there were never updates… It isn’t the Star Wars because yo… love the star wars baby! Heck we even play the CCG for SW! *SHRUG*
I’ve been playing Starcraft some… that one is interesting. Best of all it costs like 20 bucks and you get the guides and the expansion and then you can play FOR FREE. Like that playing for free business…
I’m going to give CoH a shot. Right now I’m kind of annoyed… I posted that in an entry. But hopefully that is something on my end and not theirs. Though the not being able to find said warehouse on the other side of red badguys is rather annoying and THEIR fault…

I think that’s what they were going for. I just, finally, last night, after 5 months of trying, unlocked my Jedi character. So i’ll see what happens. They’ve got a space expansion coming out to where you can buy a starship and have piloting skills and do missions in space, a la X-wing and Tie-fighter. Alot of people are excited about that. I haven’t even touched all the regular stuff, now they’re adding to it? I need about 4 more hours in the day, just to play Star Wars i guess.
I almost got Xbox live, but opted for this, instead. It had to be either/or. But when Halo 2 comes out in November, i dunno . . . tempting. And Mechwarrior 2. I hear that is awesome to do through Xbox live.
I think Star Wars takes up enough if not too much of my time as it is, just from the pure grinding standpoint. I wished i could bug the code and give myself xp. Some innovative young hackers got the Star Wars code and figured out how to give themselves more credits in the game. So they flooded the game economy with several billion credits worth of bogus money before Sony Online caught on to it and fixed the problem. The economy is purely capitalistic at its best, so little tweaks like that really mess things up.
Okay, i’ve rambled enough.

Halo rocks. I’m hoping to go Live for Halo 2. I’m a bit of a Halo addict. I never understood the first person shooter until Halo. Now I’m constantly jonesing for Halo time. Do it. Do it. Do it. I’ll team up with you in H2. 🙂
I’m really hoping for online for Christmas. *SIGH*
Blah, don’t you hate it when people do crap like that? That’s worse than the company nerfing stuff. Blargh!!!!
I hate grinding. It is why I stopped playing EQ. OK, give me a challenge but don’t make me feel like I’m pulling eyeteeth!

Well, i think they learned their lesson with the grinding for SW. Then again . . . you still have to kill about 1000 things to make one skill box fill up. Or craft a thousand things. So people still grind away. And they don’t give you nearly enough skill points to actually round out a character. If i make a Jedi, i’m going to have to totally drop everything i’ve done the last 6 months. Before, you got an extra character on the same server. Not anymore. Sigh. They always mess things up while trying to fix something else. Devs are clueless. Nerf, nerf, nerf.

I know i’m going to get reamed with the Jump to Lightspeed expansion for SW. All their other patches they do for free when you log on. A tweak here, changes there, fixes here. If they ever get a Star Trek online game going, i’m there.

Woot, ST!! 🙂 I’d be there too!
I played Earth and Beyond in beta. Loved it. They went live too soon I think. So I gave it up. It was great, but not worth paying for. Maybe someday. But it was fun to do something spacey!! I just love space stuff. especially star trek which I was raised on. That and Dr Who. Now THAT would be a cool game.
