Last night was the Buffy Horror Picture Show. Brycen and I stood in line over an hour. Unfortunately, they dumped us outside for some reason right in the smoking section. Gaaaah! Then these guys came and stood right beside us smoking cigars. Unfortunately, neither Brycen nor I can take the smoke and so our lungs were giving us problems and the cigar smell made me at least sick. We later found out that should that happen again, we can request to stand inside. That is good at least.

The Buffy Horror Picture Show started very late and was excellent. Tons of heckling the screen. I really hope Brycen enjoyed her first viewing of the OMWF. The “cast” on the stage cracked me up. They had a little too much fun, I think! 🙂 They looked like they did the whole thing with a real sense of humour. This is definitely the best way to view OMWF. So next time, get your friends together and watch it Rocky Horror style!! Oh but be safe, no lighters… we were asked not to and I think this was probably best. With as many of us? I do believe we would have burned down the Hyatt! However, cell glow and digi-cam glow was acceptable. Works for me… Now… I feel the fire and want to feel it too… hahaha… Not really.

Whew, so much to say and so little time. I will just touch on some of the things that made the most impact to me.

First, the biggest annoying thing that Brycen, Tauzero, me, and yes even someone we ran into at Drum Circle, grumped on all night! The Enterprise Season in Review panel. Well we decided no more Trek Track stuff for us. I was so indignant. The panel was abysmal to say the least. They were hateful and half of them even admitted to not watching Star Trek Enterprise! How on earth can you talk about the last season if you have not seen it??? Is it just me, or does that seem off? They had one woman; I guess she “deserved” to be on the panel because she has written Trek books. Well she admitted to not only not watching after the first couple of episodes of the series, but also hating Enterprise. She hates Archer. She hates the Vulcans on there. She said “These are not MY Vulcans. I love my Vulcans.” Apparently, she thought these were “snide”, “petty”, and “emotional” and Vulcans are “unemotional.” Excuse me, even SPOCK admitted to the fact Vulcans have emotions. The Vulcans do not have any emotion. The Vulcans have chosen to suppress their emotion and embrace logic almost to a religion. In addition, we know that Vulcans had a very violent past and they have tried to get away from that. I personally never saw anything hateful or snide or anything in the Enterprise Vulcans. They seem like normal Vulcans to me. If however people want to “personify” them and give them emotions, perhaps it is because we are seeing them in a different light. In this series we are nut their equals. We are still the primitive race, they are the advanced race, and they have, like the Federation, not just dumped new tech in our laps. We have had to work towards it. Moreover, they tried to do stuff in our best interests because they knew what we were like. Look at how Archer went flitting around meeting people and because there was no prime directive or anything, he just pissed people off. Now we know that stuff was supposed to have happened in the past and that is why the Prime Directive was created to stop misunderstandings and to protect people and etc etc etc. Well I see it as what we saw all the time in other series. Only we saw it from the point of view of the “aliens”. In some, the people who are more advanced and they do nothing to help by giving whatever asked for in the way of tech. I am sure the Federation seemed snide and crafty and cunning and the whole “keep the little man down” like. Of course I tried to express this difference in perspective and I got blasted because apparently a few of us (very few) missed the memo that this was not actually a time to discuss Enterprise Season 3 but instead was a time to bash the crap out of Enterprise writers, Enterprise cast, and Enterprise all together. What few people agreed with me? Most left early.

Now, on a positive note. We went to the dealer hall. While in line at childcare, I met a dealer who sold clothes. Sir Megabyte had looked but not been able to find a costume. I solved that problem! We went to visit Spiral Moon and decked him out. Spent a little more than I wanted, but that was fine. I felt very bad we had not had a chance to work on him a costume and he really wanted one for so long. They had this doublet that simply said was beautiful. It looked stunning and so that is what drove the price up. Well spent, if you ask me. I picked up a folded ribbon rose wreath for my hair. Now though, we are set. Sir Megabyte has new wrap pants, belt, belt pouch, tunic, and doublet. He really likes it. We can use some of it as patterns to make him some alternates. Which is also great! Give him some different coloured tunics as well as other wrap pants. We truly look like Sir Megabyte and Lady Ozma now! Mum and I need to do some work to put the finishing touches of my costume we did not get to do since we left so early. Then I am going to try to get a great picture of us.

The true highlight of the day came this evening. We picked up the boys and we went to Margaret Weis, Tracy, and Laura Hickman’s booth. The boys of course, wore their costumes! Apparently, my mother had been by and had left us a note. Margaret Weis gave it to us and I must admit getting notes passed to me through Margaret Weis was a little odd. I definitely do not feel worthy! We were able to let the boys actually talk to them, and we were able to talk to them a little bit. It truly was great. The authors just loved that we named the boys after characters. We learned, interestingly enough, that they have met several children named Raistlin! Amazing! They were all proudly wearing the ribbon pins I gave them. I must remember to email my cousin in NJ to let her know I passed those out to them. I think she would be interested, and they were hers she sent to me. I forgot to buy glue so I could make any with the supplies I had, but at the last minute, I found where I had stashed these beautiful pins. We all snapped pictures. They said they wanted to add the pictures to their website and I told them that they were definitely going on mine. They said that was great! They also gave me their cards and asked me to email them copies of my pictures and my website. Laura Hickman was also deeply touched by the story of Caramon. I am very happy now that we were able to make it to DragonCon. Between them and Anne McCaffrey being there, I had really wanted to go and having this moment really made things great. Of course, the boys, all they could talk about was meeting the authors of their books. Caramon just kept saying “And in my book it has my NAME!” HEHE Such a cute kid! Joram did too, but he could not remember “Darksword” so he just kept talking about his sword in his book. ROFL.

Also today, we went and got books signed by Anne! Todd McCaffrey was also signing bookplates for his upcoming Pern book. We snagged some of those too and I of course thanked him for continuing Pern because I LOVE Pern. I am a sucker for Dragons!!

I went to see the Farscape panel today with the stars that were there. WOOHOO! Long live Farscape!! Farscape!! I cannot wait for the miniseries. Something I thought was neat was the fans there Are throwing a baby/bridal shower for Aeryn on Sunday. All gifts and proceeds brought are to benefit ailing children with no family. I of course am a big fan of this kind of cause. I saw way too many kids who did not have family in the heme/onc ward. It broke my heart. There was one boy in there during one of our stays. We hardly saw his family at all and he had just had surgery. They were from an hour or so north of Columbus. I know that makes it hard on the parents, but the poor boy. My heart just went out for him. So we tried to visit him and do stuff for him. They were not even there the night he had his surgery! I wanted to cry! We bought him some gifts, we went to his “birthday party” (how much can you do in a hospital) and we just dropped by his room whenever we were in the hall with Caramon. I hope we brightened his stay somewhat. I also hope he got better, I never did find out what kind of cancer he had. After going through something like that myself, I know what those children are going through and how long those days can be. Anyway, what a wonderful way to celebrate your love for a show? This is the kind of thing that makes me love fans. And why I am so open about my love of shows. I love to share with other fans. I know it may seem goofy since obviously there is no Aeryn, and the actress sure is not pregnant (that I know if), but wow. I wonder what Claudia Black must think when she hears about these things? If it were me I think I would be real touched that something I did to entertain people had such far reaching marks that helped make this world a better place.
