Lots to do and not enough time! That has been the story this weekend! The schedule has just plain been mad! I have not walked (or run) this much in a long time. This has had nothing on the trips last month to the boardwalk and Kennywood! I swear they purposefully timed stuff to make me crazy! π That is the fun of a con though! Seeing how much you can cram into a simple 72 (or so) time period!!! Yesterday I was constantly on the go go go go go!
This morning there was the most fascinating archeological panel about Egypt. So we learned about Egypt, and we discussed some of the Stargate myth and how it marries into the Egyptian myths. We heard a lot of interesting stuff about Egypt and places that I did not know. I am such an Egypt buff that I was just sitting there sucking in the information left and right! Slurp! Slurp!! More Egypt!
I want to mention that Anne loved my rose wreath. She has rose gardens at her house in Ireland. (Drool would I love to go THERE on a tour! She does that sometimes!) So, I told her where to get them. I told her she needed to get information because they had dragons that I thought of as Fire Lizards that moved and stuff. She was like “What??!!” She definitely was interested. (Wish I had had my stuffed Golden. Sigh.) I told her about them. Brycen picked one up the night before I got my wreath. A lovely purple one. It has this little mechanism to use to move the head and stuff. You can make it do so much stuff. It is so cool. Brycen took it today and got the wing signed by Anne who loved it (though Brycen made it sound like Anne was a little surprised to be signing a wing). I am glad she got to see one! I hope she loved it as much as I think she would!
Today I finally found Peter David! Turns out he was not doing any signings! I was so upset and freaking out. Why? Because he had a table in the comic artist hall! Aughhh, I was freaking out! I could not find him anywhere and had not had a chance to go over THERE. Thank goodness, some kind soul overheard me talking to someone and told me where to go!! Mum’s Star Trek book and my Knight book now have autographs! I told him how much I enjoyed that series. Guess what? Yup! A third! I told him that I even got my old book group to read the first one! He was impressed when I told them how difficult it was to get them to branch out.
I did the whole Walk of Fame thing today. I finally had to do it. I would just put it off because I knew there were so many siggys I wanted and could not afford. At generally 20 a pop… ouch. I talked to the woman who played Darla on Buffy. I asked her a little bit about her Roswell character. She said she had wanted to do more with it (me too, I would have loved that fleshed out more) but since they had her come in for Angel where she was an established character they had to kill the Roswell plans. Too bad, but completely understandable. Definitely could not have a twin thing like on Friends/Mad About You! HA! Now THERE’S a cross that would be intriguing!! Vampire twin to Darla hunting aliens in Roswell! ROFL! Let us see, I will not go on at length about all the stars I talked to, just a few more. I talked to the man who plays Rhade on Andromeda this past season. He also plays Camalus on Stargate SG1. I told him I was thrilled to see he (and Andromeda) would be returning this season and hoped it would be great. I also told him I was disappointed he was not able to do more with Camalus on Earth. I understand, there is that timing with other shows issue again. When Camalus asked for asylum, I had thought that could be interesting. A voluntary snakey? Grand! They just did not do more. When O’Neill pushed him through the Stargate… with a bomb… bwahaha… He said that scene with O’Neill just snarking on him, he said it was hard because RDA was totally cracking him up. I told him that I did not know how he could do scenes with RDA without 100 takes because geeze those scenes are a riot. He says RDA is just hilarious. Doubt we will ever see RDA at a con. I do not know that ANY con can afford to protect him properly!! I want to make note of another actor I talked with. Mainly because of how people in the Trek Trak bashed his character, angering me to no end… The man who plays the Vulcan “boss” on Enterprise, you might know him from the Alien Nation TV show as Sikes. Yeah he was there and just simply wonderful! I talked to him about Alien Nation a bit. He said there is actually a fan group trying to get some more Alien Nation stuff going. Woohoo! I am all about THAT! I took the information to investigate later. I then told him how much I enjoyed his character on Enterprise. I said he gave a fresh new look to Vulcans that was actually interesting! Generally, we see a Vulcan science type person on the ship or wherever and we never really get to see anything else. Well in this, we get to see some of the more Vulcan-to-Vulcan workings between him and T’Pol as well as some more of the leadership decisions of Vulcans and other things. Regardless what people say, his so-called “snide” and yadda yadda? I love! He has DEPTH! It is why I liked Spock. He had DEPTH. Now Tuvok from Voyager, he was great and all, and I loved his character, but Spock and the ones on Enterprise are just awesome and fun to watch! He thanked me. The last one I want to talk about… I went up and I talked to the actor who played Londo on B5. (Yes, he was also on Sliders) Now I know I am a total freak. I LOVED LONDO! I just liked the character. He was so chaotic. One week you would swear he was evil and the next good and he would do this, and then later go and do the opposite. He said he loved that too. That the character was just a blast to play. We talked a little bit about Londo and why his character was great. Of course, he said he was not sure what me liking Londo meant about me, but neither am I. Probably just, I like creative characters!! I talked to him about his role on Sliders, which intrigued me. I asked him what he thought of the character he played and if he had wished they had done more. Turns out he was supposed to be more of a big bad than he turned out to be. We talked about the chaos that that show was in that season and how hard it was. I told him one thing I liked was that sure the idea of what they did to solve their Second Quinn problem was a little hinky, it was semi believable and much better than just sticking in this new bloke and hoping people would accept it like they did on Roseanne and Bewitched. Then surprising to me, he asked me if I had theatre training. Holy smokes… I told him yes, that I had been a dancer and taken theatre classes. He told me he thought I was ‘well spoken’. Geeze, I always feel like when I talk I am a total dork so I was shocked. He gave me a picture of himself signed with a true Londoism. Bwahahaha… hello Michaels, hope you still have frames on sale!
I did make it to the LiveJournal panel. “My so called LiveJournal.com”. Now to see how prolific you are in LJ… we had two cam girls and someone from LJ drama and some other woman there. All early adopters I believe they said. Long time users at any rate. Photognome was in the audience as well. That was a great panel. The discussion branched to many different things. I got the idea that most of them just figured do whatever you want and if people do not like it, they can get over it. Ok, I cleaned that language up drastically! Perhaps they are right. They made a valid point that if people do not like what you post then they just do not have to read it. There was a question because apparently some of the people post adult content, which they explicitly warn users of, and they get email complaining about their adult content. “Oh I was caught viewing this at work” or “I was looking at this at home and my kids walked in.” The consensus seemed to be to let them censor themselves because they do not want to feel censored. True definitely. If you are in a place that is inappropriate for such viewing, then simply do not view. Besides, they have great filters that you can use for that purpose! We did talk about blogging as the new journalism and how journalists are reading blogs to see how things affect people and such. I definitely think it is a good way to follow happenings and can sometimes be more informative. Bloggers can post about what they want and have no editor breathing down their neck. So maybe things that always seem one way reported on the news, you can get a more balanced view from a blogger who sees other things. People do not understand how hard it is to be a journalist. They are under such a time crunch and not only that they find themselves forced to cover things certain ways by their editors. Some journalists are snakes, but not all. A lot are just trying their hardest to do a good job and just due to deadline or not being able to find the other side of the story, they can report a very seemingly slanted piece. If people refuse to talk to you, you have no rebuttal to the side of the story you already have. If something happens at 4:55 and you need it by the 5:00 news, that is really not very long at all.
Tonight wrapped up with going to a Buffy Gaming Night. I missed the Stargate one unfortunately because it conflicted with I believe LiveJournal… We played the Buffy Board game. The first round I played Xander and died early on. We were only learning the game so it went somewhat rough. By the second round, though we had lost two players and had a feel for the game. I did double duty. I had Xander and Willow. Woohoo! Just as we were starting out, we did gain a new player. He played Oz. Well this time, we really got into it and were snarking on the characters and role-playing it up a little. At one point Willow was hurting and Oz and just turned back to human from a werewolf and picked up a healing card. We hooked them up on the board and swapped it out for one of her spell cards so she could heal herself. One gal says, “Yeah Willow, Tara wouldn’t have done that for you!” I said, “It pays to have a good boyfriend looking out for my health!” We put up a PDA card from the CCG… bwahahaha. At another point Buffy and Evil Spike hooked up and were duking it out so we were going “Spuffy Porn!!!!” Buffy ended up taking out Spike and then the big bad (Mayor) took out Buffy! EEEK. Xander goes, everyone gathered, and we ganged up on The Mayor. Xander died fast, but Willow and Werewolf Oz saved the day! Woohoo Willow and Werewolf Oz! Together we make one dang good slayer duo! HEHE.
