One of the 501st wanted a better version of the soft hat worn by the Empire. My mum, being the Uber Sewing Goddess in Training (she won’t let me call her USG until she makes this hat), volunteered to help out.

Last night we worked on finding good screenshots of the aforementioned hat. We managed to score two really great ones.

So today we went and picked up some inexpensive fabric with which to make a prototype. We went for cheap fabric as it is just testing and we’re not even sure of the pattern. Once mum has a working pattern, she will be able to disassemble the prototype and use that for future hats with appropriate fabric.

I do think the guys would be amused with the fabric we found. Surf boards and surfers… I’m picturing a stormtrooper with swim trunks and helmet in one hand and surfboard in the other… *GRINS* Yeah… sounds like a great stormtrooper to me! Hehehe.
