Project Specialty is moving along. For those who have been following this, please make sure you are logged in! I just posted about that in a big way. π I’m hoping to publically be able to unveil this soon though. We shall see the timing… Sir Megabyte and I are working on that right now.
In other news, I’ve been messing around with bootable Linux OS’s. Right now my Laptop is turned on with Berry Linux loaded. Of course I need to go see if it booted in english this time. Apparently the default is Japanese. Uhhhh… er.. ooops? HAHA It doesn’t seem to notice my wireless card, though it did detect the PCMCIA slot so I’m not sure what’s going on with that. I’m going to go muck around and see what I can figure out. Fun fun! I wanted to try this out because I downloaded Fedora on the recommendations of a friend. Berry is based on Knoppix and Fedora so I thought this might give me at least a small idea…
Plus you can totally download Berry Mini and boot that from a thumb drive. Talk about awesome. Thumb drive OS… haha… Yeah I thought of a certain special someone with THAT one… You know who you are. How’s that thumb drive working out for ya anyway? *GRINS*
I’ll post back about the Linux CDs. We’ve got Feather, Berry, Berry Mini, and Phlak. I’m kind of thinking about downloading DamnSmallLinux to check that out as well. That’s like 50 megs. I played with Feather for a bit last night. For a 60 odd meg OS it’s pretty rocking! I mean OK, not totally awesome but I was really impressed! It’s why I thought I’d try some of these others out. Especially Berry Mini since I was interested in Berry anyway. Of course a portable OS just rocks. HEHE π
Just wish I could figure out how to get Berry to acknowledge my PCMCIA wireless card. Hmmm… well I’ll muck around… see what I can do! π

Who makes the card? Is it 802.11a/b/g? Alot of 802.11 cards do not work with Linux because the manufacturers refuse to release the specs so that Linux people can write the drivers for them. Add to that the fact that the manufacturers can’t or don’t want to write the drivers themselves and you have a krappy situation. There is hope though, but its not free… There is a company that has written an adapter layer that will allow you to run windows drivers in linux. You would have to heavly modify your boot CD to get it to work though…

Hmmm… not sure i know how to mod the boot cd at all. (I’d like to to put on a client for IM programs.)
But it apparently looks for wireless. I found out how to do that. And it can access my PCMCIA slot because it says it finds it and loads it while booting up. (I guess I should try it out with my SD card or something maybe.) But apparently it doesnt’ like my card. *SHRUG* No idea…
I’ll have to figure it out later. Feel free to muck around since you know more about linux than I do.
