Dead Man Talking
Written by: Casey Daniels
Pages: 304Heiress-turned-cemetery-tour-guide Pepper Martin is not happy to discover that a local reality TV show, Cemetery Survivor, will be filmed at Cleveland’s Monroe Street Cemetery-and she has to be a part of it. To make matters worse, the ghost of a wrongly convicted killer needs Pepper’s help to clear his name. But digging for the truth could put her in grave danger. The fifth book in the Pepper Martin series is probably my new favourite. It has everything you could ever want in a supernatural cozy novel: mystery, suspense, hijinks, ghosts, and a reality show set in a graveyard.
Yes, I said a reality show set in a graveyard. I mean how do you get more awesome than that?
Pepper probably thought life couldn’t get much worse than having to work in a graveyard. Then she found out, “Yay, I can talk to ghosts.” Because that’s fun and doesn’t make you look crazy in the least. But now? She’s got to work in a graveyard, on television for everyone she knows to see, with a group of misfits on probation.
Can she pull off solving the mystery of a wrongly convicted killer that once worked as a prison warden while also winning the “Cemetery Survivor” game? More importantly, can she do it all while looking stylish and dealing with her own “Scooby Gang”?
The cast of characters in Pepper’s life grows in this novel, and I hope that some of these people stick around for future novels. I think the zany cast is what nabbed me in this book. The way they all pulled together for Pepper even touched my heart. I even liked the growth of her character as she came to love the misfits thrust upon her.
With two more Pepper books in my collection to read, I just hope that they keep up the pace set in this book. I flew through the 304 pages, unable to put this book down.
