The idea of making lists is nothing new. Chances are that everyone has a list floating around in their head somewhere. Maybe it is just stuff you want to buy at the grocery store or maybe it is your Bucket List.
How many of us make a list of things we want to do in the new year each January first? Sometimes it is just stuff we want to do by a certain age. Goals are not bad to have. After all, if you don’t have goals that you are trying to reach you often don’t reach anything at all.
My personal theory is sometimes the adventure to get to a goal is just as important as achieving the goal. Sometimes our goals are lofty and we fail, but we learn something about ourselves. Other times we don’t make our goals lofty enough and feel disappointed in ourselves for not trying more.
Whatever the reason, goals can be a good thing as we learn and grow. But what about a “bucket list”?
My friend just read a book called The next thing on my list by Jill Smolinski.
The book sounded interesting and I added it to my “Want to Read” list.
It did make me wonder, what would I put on my list? I know many people would put on their list to ride a motorcycle. I just did that! I have to admit, learning to ride was on my list of “I’d love to do this some day”! I’m so happy that I finally got up the nerve to actually take the safety course and learn to ride! (Even if I failed the test. It really was about the adventure!)
One of the things I wanted to do as a kid was be a journalist. I did get to do this for a brief while and loved it! (Honestly, I’d love to write again. Maybe one day.)
I also always wanted to go to live in Arizona. I lived there for a year and a half and loved it.
I am not really sure what else I would add to my list. Overall I am pretty happy with my life. I suppose finishing college would be one thing and getting a book published would be another. After that I’m not sure.
Should I have a list of things I should do before I turn the dreaded 20-20? I don’t want to admit how close that is! Just make a bucket list?
There are some things that I’d love to do that are definitely out of my league. I mean I’d love to sing with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir or dance with a professional ballet. Unfortunately my singing is just not up to par with the MoTab and neither is my very rusty ballet skills.
Feel free to sound off on your own List ideas. Have fun with it. I could always choose some wild adventures to have over the next year and blog about them. That could be fun! What would you have me to do? (You guys know I’m crazy enough to try a lot of things – after all I just learned to ride a motorcycle! HA!)
My own List… what to put on it… things to ponder…
